The spinning sessions are open to all, so your friends and family members are welcome to attend. Sessions will be held in the Fitness Center, which will be reserved for us on these specific periods and there will be 2 sessions\night. Wednesday, Feb. 9: 19h15 and 20h30. Wednesday, Feb. 16: 19h15 and 20h30. Since bikes are in limited numbers, you will need to register to each session you'd like to attend by sending an email to: mbeaumont@slc.qc.ca. Green tip of the week from your ECO-ST. Lo, your local environ- ment group.
Why not purchase fair trade products when you need to purchase at all? Start with Valentine's Day. Fair trade is about better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. By requiring companies to pay sustainable prices (which must never fall lower than the market price), fair trade addresses the injustices of conventional trade, which traditionally discriminates against the poorest, weakest producers. It enables them to improve their position and have more control over their lives. The fair trade system includes environmental standards as part of producer certification. The standard requires producers to work to protect the natural environment and make environmental protection a part of farm management. Producers are also encouraged to minimize the use of energy, especially energy from non-renewable sources. In addition, by purchasing fair trade products, shoppers are ensuring that producer organisations receive a fair trade premium for investment in economic, social and environmental products of their own choice. These premiums can enable farmers to implement a range of environmental protection programmes which will contribute to the range of solutions needed to address climate change and ultimately benefit all of us. By choosing fair trade products, you can therefore help producers preserve their own environment as well as have a positive social benefit in their community. Fair trade criteria require sustainable farming techniques. Moreover, fair trade premiums are often used to train producers in organic and sustainable techniques like composting and integrating recycled materials, which can help them make progress in organic conversion in the future. Fair trade certification ensures that the benefits of agriculture accrue to marginalised and disadvantaged producers. Think about purchasing fair trade products whenever you can. At St. Lawrence it's easy being green!
