Green tip of the week from your ECO-ST. Lo, your local environment group.
ECO-St. Lo is working really hard to convince members of our community to reduce our plastic consumption and waste disposal. Why? One of many reasons is that the world is fast becoming a plastic waste garbage dump.Plastic disposal leads to disaster For instance, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch refers to the floating pile of garbage approximately the size of Texas which can be found between Oregon and the Hawaiian Islands. The Great Pacific Garbage Patch represents an environmental disaster for the world's oceans, and it is often used to illustrate the need for conservation policies which take the ocean into account. When it was sampled in 2001, the Great Pacific Garbage Patch yielded six pounds (three kilograms) of plastic for every pound (half kilogram) of plankton in the water.
So let's start by reducing our plastic consumption. Why not buy an ECO-St. Lo mug at the front desk instead of using styrofoam cups?
At St. Lawrence it's easy being green!
Here are some interesting links regarding plastics:

Important: It seems that a student from St. Lawrence tried to register and was told that there were no longer spots available. It was a mistake. The Ste-Foy spots have filled up; however, there is still room for students from other CEGEPS (information updated September 27, 2010).
McGill University will be holding an information session for all future students and parents who like more information on their medicine programs and their admissions requirements.
This information session will be held at Cégep de Ste-Foy on Wednesday, October 20, at 6 p.m. in room J-216 (Carrefour-conseil). It is open to the public. Michel Dansereau, an admissions officer, will explain the application and selection process. You will be able to specific questions as well.
To register, you must contact Claudette Chouinard at the following number or e-mail address:
(418) 659-6600 ext. 3720
