Dear Art in Action Community, Judy 2012

It is with great enthusiasm that I am writing to let you know about some exciting changes at Art in Action. We have grown tremendously over the last 30 years and are poised to expand our program to even more children. I have, at this time, decided to refocus my time and energy on curriculum development, which has always been my real passion. As a result, Art in Action will be hiring a new Executive Director. Thank You Palo Alto Community Fund

Thank you Palo Alto Community Fund for a generous grant of $4,000 to underwrite our program for 220 3rd - 5th grade students at Willow Oaks Elementary School in East Menlo Park, CA for a second year. View Willow Oaks student artwork at the East Palo Alto Library, June 1-30.

Welcome New Schools

school Art in Action is now in two new states! We welcome teacher Natasha Bingham of Hobble Creek Elementary School in Mapleton, UT to Art in Action. Natasha will be guiding her 2nd grade students through "The Artist's Vision." The students will explore form and space as they learn about portraits, landscapes and still life. We also welcome G.W. Trenholm Primary School of Tuscumbia, AL who will pilot the program in kindergarten, first and second grades!

Advocate For Art Education

The value of arts education: A video - This 14-minute film does a great job detailing the impact of arts education on the development of children's cognitive, artistic, social and psychological development.

Funding for the Arts Sometimes Benefits All of Us Does funding for the arts benefit only elite arts patrons, or does the rest of society benefit, too? In these times of limited philanthropic dollars, this is an incredibly important question.

"Art is like food for me. I need it every day, and feel bad when I don't do it. I loved drawing since I was very young, and I enjoy every moment I have doing art. It helps me express my feelings and show my personality. Many people ask how I draw so well, but all it really is, is practice and consistentcy." - Jane is a 5th grader at Spring Valley School, San Bruno, CA.

· painted cakes and pies from his imagination and memories of bakeries and diners.

· lived in Long Beach and worked at a cafe named Mile High and Red Hot, where "Mile High" was ice cream and "Red Hot" was a hot dog.

· enjoys his favorite poet, William Carlos Williams.

Donors subsidize half the cost of the Art in Action Program to keep the program affordable. YOU can help provide quality art education for more students.

New Staff

Welcome to our new full-time Program Manager, Lisa Vestal. She brings 15 years of educational and non-profit experience to Art in Action. She will work with our current schools and help us as we grow to bring more art to children.
