The World Needs Creative Thinkers

Mona Lisa

Why is creativity important? Ashley loves art and science. She majored in biotech in college, but when it came to landing her dream job, the employer said it was her art background that made her stand out among the candidates. "We're looking for creative thinkers. Your art experience distinguishes you from the others," he told her.

The President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities recently confirmed evidence that art education improves test scores and competitiveness in the workforce. "Business leaders are looking for employees who are creative, collaborative and innovative thinkers." You can learn to think more creatively

In a recent survey, educators agreed that the Art in Action curriculum improves students' thinking, creativity, and cultural understanding. Art transforms learning by engaging students in expressing original ideas, as well as analyzing the ideas of others.

Judy Sleeth, Executive Director

Fabulous! Fantastic! Love It!

The praise runs high in Art in Action's annual school survey, with an overall satisfaction score of 99.7%. Principals, teachers and parent volunteers overwhelmingly find that the program has a positive impact on students' thinking and creativity. One teacher describes the program as "uplifting, educational, exciting and enjoyable". A principal says that the student art is fabulous. A parent says she is proud to be part of the program. We appreciate the many valuable comments and suggestions for how to make the program even better. See more

Ask For More Art

The President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities released Reinvesting in Arts Education: Winning America's Future Through Creative Schools, which details the powerful role that arts education strategies play in closing the achievement gap, improving student engagement, building creativity, and nurturing innovative thinking skills.

No Child's Imagination Left Behind - What is learned by participating in creative, physical and intellectual activities is lasting and profound. And conversely, what is learned through canned curriculum and endless testing is fleeting and superficial.
