| Letter from the Executive Director

Recently I stood awestruck in a room at the de Young Museum in San Francisco surrounded by paintings by Renoir, Degas, Monet and Cezanne. It has been a rare experience and one that I would wish for you and your children. In our Program Level 3 we feature The Dance Class by Degas; this painting is actually hanging at the de Young for a short while just waiting for Art in Action students to marvel at it. Viewing these paintings might be one of those amazing experiences that your children will remember forever. After all, isn't instilling the appreciation of art through art history a reason why we value art and participate in the Art in Action Program? With only a few more weeks of summer left, make time to share art experiences like this one with your family. Judy Sleeth

Welcome New Schools
| California students at John Malcom Elementary in Laguna Niguel, CA and first graders at Laurel School in Atherton, CA will start the new school year with Art in Action. Strong parent leadership by Tere Neuhausel and Jenna Peebles combined with custom training will ensure a smooth start at John Malcom. We are especially pleased to be bringing Art in Action back to Laurel School, our first Art in Action school in 1982!

Filoli Hosts Fun-filled Art Show
| Filoli will host a fun-filled art show and children's arts activity day on August 14 to celebrate the visual art achievements of San Mateo County students. The art show, "America the Beautiful", will celebrate over 200 works of art by local students grades K-12. During the celebration, from 10 am to 3 pm, there will be a variety of arts activities and entertainers. Participating students will be honored at a brief ceremony at noon. All children will be admitted free on August 14. Filoli is partnering for this celebration with the San Mateo County Office of Education. The San Mateo County Alliance for Arts Education and the Peninsula Arts Council are supporting this event. For more information
