Letter from the Executive Director
Judy A great year at Art in Action is coming to fulfillment. We are so thankful to our Art in Action family and friends for all you have contributed to bringing art to children! We appreciate opportunities to work with so many wonderful parents, teachers, principals and volunteers. We are grateful for partnerships with public libraries for displaying art, to businesses for sponsoring our events, and to banks for hosting events and art shows. We thank foundations, corporations, and generous individual donors.
Most of all, we are grateful for the wide-eyed wonder, curiosity, and excitement from children as they immerse themselves in Art in Action lessons.
Thanks to all of you for the work you do! Your enthusiasm and thoughtful contributions bring vibrancy and quality to the Art in Action Program. We wish you all a happy and healthy holiday season and New Year.

Holiday Gift Ideas from Betsy
artshowMake your own holiday wrapping paper. Buy a large roll of white paper from Ikea. Cut off a piece big enough for wrapping what ever it is and let your children draw pictures, scribble color on, or write messages. Colored pens work best and won't rub off. Or, cut out colorful magazine pictures and glue them on with white craft glue, or make snowflakes out of silver or gold paper and glue them on. Stamp the paper with silver or gold ink or draw squiggles with a gold or silver paint pen for another variation. Tie up with colorful yarn instead of bows for a real home-made look!

What's Happening at Your School?
fiestaquiltFiesta Gardens International School in San Mateo, CA really got excited by the 5th grade lesson on Faith Ringgold. They used patterned paper to simulate real fabric and assembled the individual pieces into a class quilt. Thanks Rosanne Balla and Robin Smolen!

Parents Make All the Difference
edutopia logoParental Involvement Reaps Big Benefits
Parent involvement isn't a luxury -- it's an integral component of student achievement and school reform. Decades of research studies on the effect of meaningful parent involvement programs in schools have found that when parents are involved, students achieve more, regardless of socioeconomic status, ethnic/racial background, or the parents' education level.

Thank You
San Francisco Foundation

Art in Action thanks The San Francisco Foundation for their recent grant of $10,000.
This grant will help us bring art to more students through our K-8 programs and teacher training in Bay Area schools in 2010. It is because of ongoing supporters like them, that we have been so successful in achieving our mission of bringing a quality visual art program to children in the Bay Area. We thank them for making a difference.
