| Letter from the Executive Director
We are so excited that the Online Resources are in production mode. Last fall many of you saw the animated lesson sample, and we've worked hard to translate it into reality this year. The template is ready and being filled with content! Thanks to dedicated interns, volunteers, board members and friends, we expect to have many lessons available in the fall, but we will need additional funding to complete this project. These Online Resources, available to Art in Action schools, will make your teaching easier and more powerful! They will help you prepare to teach, as well as show students the process and techniques for creating a masterpiece. Please let us know if you want to get involved in building this resource. There are many ways to help, including creating the content, checking websites, donating to support the project, and being an intern. (See jobs below.)

High School Students Create Murals for SFMOMA!
SFMOMA has commissioned renowned artist Kerry James Marshall to create two murals for the museum's Haas Atrium. For over 30 years, Marshall has explored stories of racial identity, the Civil Rights movement, and unsung histories in his work. In response to Marshall's works, fifteen teens from three Oakland high schools are designing and producing a collaborative mural, in Town Park at DeFremery Park, focusing on the themes of silenced histories and storytelling. How Artists See Families: Mother Father Sister Brother by Colleen Carroll "How Artists See" is a series of interactive, inquiry-based books designed to teach children about the world by looking at art and about art by looking at the world. Carmen Lomas Garza captures the simple pleasure of a family eating watermelon on the front porch; Kikugawa Eizan uses curved lines to show the gracefulness with which a mother carries her young son; John Singer Sargent depicts the flowerlike delicacy of two sisters as they light lanterns in a twilit summer garden; and Winslow Homer shows a boy's protectiveness of his younger brother in a dangerous situation.
