| Volunteers of the Month

Kudos to a very special site coordinator, Brooke Herout, who will be moving on from Nesbit School and the Bay Area. Brooke started Art in Action 4 years ago with the 1st grade program and in no time had teachers and parents eager to bring art into every K-5 classroom. From recruiting docents and organizing on site trainings to designing the school art show, Brooke has done it all! Art in Action, and Mara and Betsy especially, will miss you - you better stay in touch!

| Join the "Save Education in California" Letter Campaign
| We face an unprecedented 18 billion dollar budget deficit in California. Governor Schwarzenegger's proposed solution includes no new revenues, but an across-the-board 10% budget cut, which will mean 4.8 billion dollars less for our schools. Help save education for every child in California! Our state already ranks 46th in the nation in per-pupil spending, in spite of the fact that we have one of the highest costs of living and one of the most diverse and challenging student populations in the world. The governor's proposed budget would reduce our spending by a further $800 a child and $24,000 a classroom. It's time for all of us to work together for a safer, more prosperous California, and that must include new, more stable revenues. As a citizen and voter, you have power in a democracy. So far 352 people have sent over 2,600 letters to over 45 California legislators. Make your voice heard too! Visit the Art is Education website to send your letter today. |

Thank you Palo Alto Weekly!

Art in Action thanks the Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund for their grant of $5,000. Funded through the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, the PAWHF's donation will underwrite the Art in Action program at Costano Elementary School in East Palo Alto for the 2008-2009 school year. Many thanks to the Palo Alto Weekly Holiday Fund and others for making a difference in the lives of children who would not otherwise have a quality visual art education.
