Art in Action enriches lives through art. 72 schools now offer our programs in 871 classrooms. We train 1,900 teachers and classroom docents to teach more than 20,000 students. More than 800 children attended our summer ARTcamp, and local libraries display over 3,000 works of student art every year. Experience art today!

Art in Action parents, volunteers, librarians, ARTcamp interns, trainers, docents, and friends joined us last week for our holiday gift-making workshop. Sparkling jewelry, beautifully hand painted glassware and marbleized paper were just some of the fabulous pieces created by our artists. We can't wait for our next workshop in February 2008!

Art in Action thanks Hurlbut-Johnson Charitable Fund for their recent grant of $12,500. Funded through the Silicon Valley Community Foundation, Hurlbut-Johnson's donation will continue to assist us in bringing art to students in many of the Bay Area's Title I schools. Because of ongoing supporters like them, we have been very successful in achieving our mission of bringing a quality visual art program to children in the Bay Area. Many thanks to the Hurlbut-Johnson Charitable Fund and others for making a difference.

A long overdue thank you: Once a month, for the last 9 months, Art in Action has been fortunate to host a team of One Brick volunteers to help us pack ARTboxes. One Brick, a San Francisco-based organization, is a non-profit run entirely by volunteers who organize other groups of volunteers to support other Bay Area non-profits. Their efficient work and cheerful attitudes have been invaluable in packing hundreds of ARTboxes this year. We really can't thank One Brick enough, and look forward to continuing our work with them in the months to come!

The de Young Museum presents The Sculpture of Louise Nevelson: Constructing a Legend. This exhibit, a mixture of sculpture and works on paper, weaves together the relationships between  several different histories: Nevelson's personal experience as a woman artist, the history of Jewish migration to this country, and the history of 20th century art, including major movements such as Cubism, Surrealism, Abstract Expressionism, and Minimalism.
