Dear
How have you been doing on the Duvet Diet? Are you allowing your inner critic to collect its P45 and join fear, self doubt and procrastination on the pile of redundant emotional states?
Did the concept of giving yourself increased kindness and compassion strike a mellifluous chord in your heart? Does the idea of being much more gentle with yourself seem almost naughty? Doesn't it feel good to not beat yourself up all the time?
Sounds like you are doing great on my Duvet Diet which makes the heart lighter and helps you look good in your genes (!) as you drop boulders of guilt, regret and self-recrimination each day.
I've had some unprecedented feedback on my last newsletter which urged us all to be much kinder to ourselves and others. I think it's a sign of the harsh and often uncaring times we live in that the concept of self-consideration seems as alien to us as Simon Cowell showing humility.
Let's face it, we put up with a lot. Often we work without praise, suffer daily death by commute, bear the inconsideration of others via litter, leaking i-Pod headphones and the indolent indifference we endure from under-trained sales staff and just have to bite back our ire.

But before you despair and reach for the gin and hemlock chaser let me share the good news. There is change in the air. People have had enough and they're seeking something a bit more meaningful than Big Brother and Pot Noodle.
Take for instance the up swell of public outcry over the Jonathan Ross/Russell Brand debacle which was seen by some as an over-reaction to what was nothing more than a puerile prank on par with a nuisance call.
Those in the latter camp of thought may have a gross mis-reading of the situation in my view. Over 40,000 people complained at this cruel haranguing of Andrew Sachs and the antics of his granddaughter, because we've had enough of ignorant, cruel and yobbish behaviour being waved in our faces without consequences or reprisal.
There is a line of decency and general consideration that has been eroded over the years and frankly we've had enough.
Mr Ross would do well to look to a new book The Likeability Factor by Tim Sanders which reveals that in both business and society we are seeking to gravitate towards those who create positive attitudes, who have a sense of social responsibility and who provide physical and emotional benefits to others. Like Barack Obama perhaps?
Isn't it time people like Ross and the likes of the greedy fund managers didn't benefit financially from being morally bankrupt?

The New Secret of Success |
More frequently in my life coaching and business coaching I am asking people to reconnect with their values, to consider always adding more to whatever they or who they do it with and to go the extra mile for no other reason than it's free and it makes you feel good.
The returns are phenomenal. We like to do business with people we trust, who seem to care, who make us feel special and who have some sort of social responsibility.
You will see this is going to become higher on the agenda for the consumer who will have to make considered choices when the market gets tough. Spiritual capitalism means putting your money where there is altruism, a bigger picture and an agenda for making a difference. But as with all great journeys it starts with the first step. So how could you be living in your values more?
The powerful questions to ask could be:
- What is my contribution?
- What consequence am I avoiding?
- Who are my role models and what do I admire about them?
- How would my life feel if I was really making a difference?
- Where do I naturally get my energy?
- Who am I and who do I want to be
- If I were being my brand, what would I stand for?
In the spirit of altruism may you give away more, lend a hand, add value in all you do and go the extra mile without being asked. How great it feels to have one's spiritual bank account in the black.

Staggering Acts of Random Kindness |

Thank you to those of you who shared your SARK with me in the past week.
Lisa Kalker wins an hour session with me for her wonderful act of altruism. She writes to tell me she left her paid for swimming pass which had a week's free admittance to the pool left on it to someone in the queue at her fitness centre. It gave her a Ready Brek glow all day.
Send me your SARk and make us all smile. PS I stood up for a lady on the train despite being surrounded by more young male muscles than Belgo at dawn. Go on, don't be shy, share your kindness too. Email me caroleann@realcoachingco.com
