In The Loop - We've been everywhere man!
The AYMN team have been traveling right around this great big country of ours over the past 3 months. Earlier this month, the AYMN completed the last consultations sessions for the WA Youth Mentoring Reform Project. There was a great turn out in Geraldton and Kalgoorlie and the feedback from all of the 8 consultations the AYMN undertook have been inspiring.
The AYMN supported the N.T Youth Connections providers at their state conference in Katherine in late May. The conference explored how traditional youth mentoring may be adapted to work in regional and remote Indigenous communities.
The AYMN Forum Series is in full swing with the Bendigo forum last week and the NSW Hunter Valley last month. The next Forums will be taking place in Sydney and Melbourne. Keep an eye on the website for more details.
The most exciting part is that NRGize, our annual induction to mentoring course, has SOLD OUT! NRGize will be taking place in Adelaide from 4 - 6th of July where we will be launching the NEW course material. Don't worry if you missed out this time, we are already planning NRGize 2012!

New Blog - The 'Goldilocks' approach to Mentoring
| We know that lack-lustre and poorly managed mentoring relationships run the risk of causing more harm than good to the young people we are trying to help. But have you ever considered that poor mentoring matches may also risk the reputation of our sector?
This month's blog explores the characteristics of mentors whose relationships last the distance and have fantastic results each time.

Coordinator Factsheet - Avoiding Early Match Termination
| |
Research demonstrates that the longer the mentoring relationship, the more positive outcomes for the mentee. However, if matches end in the first three months, a greater potential for harm exists. As program coordinators, it is imperative to plan, deliver and develop programs to provide the best outcomes for success; for matches to remain together for a reasonable amount of time; and in order to meet the vision for your program.
This factsheet provides coordinators with help to prevent matches terminating prematurely.
