Youth Mentoring Week will be held from October 24-30 2010 as a celebration throughout Australia of youth mentoring and all its success, potential and opportunity. With less than 100 days to go, now is the time to start planning your event.

How you and your program decide to celebrate the week is up to you. You might choose an event, you might choose to share the story of a successful match with the media, or you may choose to celebrate in a way unique to your program.

What ever your choice, the Youth Mentoring Network website can guide you with tools to help you host your event with a Celebration Support Kit and a range of templates all free to download.

Once you have settled on how you will celebrate this week be sure to register your event through the website so we can add it to the online calendar for everyone to see. While you are there, check out our upcoming events and helpful links about youth mentoring.

Calling for Abstracts!

The Australian Youth Mentoring Conference is now calling for papers. We are looking for papers to fill two program streams. The first is programs wanting to be part of the Show and Tell and the second stream is Professional Development for both practitioners and mentors.

Rural and Remote Scholarship Competition

AYMN recognises that due to the rural or remote nature of their location, some potential conference delegates may face higher than average travel expenses.

In order to assist two lucky people, we are pleased to announce that our sponsor, the Radisson Resort Gold Coast is offering two Rural and Remote Scholarship packages, consisting of a full 2-day conference ticket plus two night's accommodation at the resort.

To qualify for one of these scholarships, you must reside at least 200 kilometers from the nearest airport.

If you fit the criteria, please complete and submit this survey by midnight 20 August 2010 (AEST).

Scholarships will be awarded by random draw and announced by 27th August 2010.

New Structure and Decision Making Model for AYMN

Golden Man Thank you to everyone who provided comments and feedback on the two proposed models of decision making for the AYMN. On the 1st of July 2010 our Committee met to discuss the options and have chosen a modified version of Option 2:
  • Up to five (5) Skill Based Representatives
  • One (1) Government Representative
  • One (1) Host Agency Representative (The Smith Family)
  • Chairperson of the Sectoe Advisory Group

It is hoped that new structure will come into effect by 31 Decemmber 2010. This new structure will allow the AYMN to continue to grow and meet the growing demand for services.
