Youth Career and Transition Program Changes
Our June newsletter noted that the Federal Government announced changes to the Youth Transitions Programs. The changes are to take effect from 1 January 2010 and will see many existing Australian Government youth, transitions and career programs being restructured into two new programs under the National Partnership on Youth Attainment and Transitions. These programs are the School Business Community Partnership Brokers Program and the Youth Connections Program.
It is anticipated that the Government will be releasing Request for Tender (RFT) documentation for the two new Programs on 21 August 2009. These documents will be available on the AusTender website.
(you will need to type the name of the Program in the website's search facility)
Although we endeavour to provide you with accurate information, the Government may change the release date of the RFT. You can also keep an eye on the Youth Career and Transition Program website for more up to date information.

Thank You to Everyone Who Completed the Survey
A huge thanks to everyone who completed the Australian Youth Mentoring Network's online survey designed to asses the state of play of mentoring in Australia. The results of this survey will be important not only in helping the network understand the future support role it must play to the sector, but in also providing valuable statistics which program can use to support funding submissions and proposals to Government.
Keep an eye on our website for the results of the survey. We have drawn the winners of the competition and would like to congratulate them:
1st Prize - Lyn Parker
Lyn is from the Volunteer Support Mentoring Program (VSMP). The VSMP aims to establish and maintain positive, trusting, long term mentoring friendships between adult volunteers and children and young people in the foster care system. The program was established to address the often unmet needs of children and young people in the foster care system and enables the mentees to have a consistent, caring adult to stay with them throughout their journey through the care system, as well as increased access to recreational activities and to have individual attention.
2nd Prize - Vicki Condon
Vicki is from the Bump Mentoring Program which is conducted by The Young Love Foundation which is a not-for-profit organisation contributing to the health and wellbeing of young mums in our community. Bump provides community based weekly mentoring and monthly personal development workshops for young pregnant or parenting girls up to the age of 23 years old. The Bump program provides a great network of young mums, as well as providing an experienced mum as a mentor.
3rd Prize - Kathleen Bleakley
Kathleen is from the Kids Friends - Mentoring & Tutoring Program which is run by Barnardos in Queanbeyan. The Program works with vulnerable children and young people in the area and provides mentoring to children and young people who need a special adult friend to spend one-to-one time as well as individual tutoring to children and young people who are struggling with their schoolwork.
