Help Us Understand Youth Mentoring in Australia and Win!
The YMN is conducting the Mentoring in Australia Survey again. We conduct this survey every two years and use the results to learn more about the current state of play of mentoring in Australia.
The results also allow the YMN to adapt its services in order to better support mentoring programs throughout Australia. By completing the survey, you will be eligible to go into a draw to win fantastic prizes including an Apple iPod Shuffle, movie tickets and gift vouchers!
We're Holding More Events than Ever!
There are lots of great events coming up in the next few months. We will be holding mentoring forums, the WA Mentor Summit, a NRGize Workshop and four state of play meetings. These events will provide professional development for coordinators, help expand the knowledge of mentors and provide opportunities for everyone involved in mentoring to network.
We will also be supporting the inaugural Australian Youth Mentoring Week. Youth Mentoring Week will be held from 25 October to 31 October 2009.
Celebrate Youth Mentoring Week with the Australian Youth Mentoring Network. There will be plenty of events and activities around Australia for mentors, mentees and programs!
Keep an eye on our website for more details soon!
YMN Factsheets and Youth Mentoring Benchmarks
The YMN Mentor Factsheets are available for download for free from our website. The factsheets help mentors deal with issues which may come up when speaking with their mentees. Topics include Adolescent Issues, Trouble-shooting the Relationship, Dealing with Bullying, and Anger Management.
You can also download a copy of the Australian National Youth Mentoring Benchmarks for free from our website. These benchmarks are a set of minimum standards that all mentoring programs are encouraged to follow.
Click here to download the Benchmarks
You can now also get bulk hard copies of the Factsheets and Benchmarks from our web shop. Click on the links below to visit the web shop.

The Big Picture
Many of you may have by now completed the Australian Youth Mentoring Network's online survey designed to asses the state of play of mentoring in Australia. The results of this survey will be important not only in helping the network understand the future support role it must play to the sector, but in also providing valuable statistics which program can use to support funding submissions and proposals to Government. To compliment this survey we would like to provide practitioners with an opportunity to discuss some of this information in more detail. In particular we would like to discuss the challenges you are facing in your programs and see how we can tackle some of these issues head on.
We are holding four state of play meetings around Australia. Ideally we would love to hold one in every state and regional area but at this point in time it is not feasible. So if you work in a rural or remote or a state that we are not visiting, we will be in contact with you soon to outline how you can still have your say on these very important issues.
In the meantime, I would strongly encourage you to complete the survey if you haven't already done so to ensure your voice is heard for this first call for information. The more information we can gather, the richer the data we will have as a sector to draw on. Click here to start (or finish the survey) and don't forget you can win some great prizes like an iPod shuffle, movie tickets and shopping vouchers. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to give me a call. Thank you and I hope to see you at one of these meetings! |

Mentoring Stories |

Congratulations to Our Winners!
We would like to thank everyone who entered the "Your Story" Competition. Mentors and Mentees from all over Australia are invited to send in their mentoring story and photos. We were delighted by the great stories by the mentors and mentees. It was fantastic to read how mentoring changes the lives of both mentors and mentees and the wonderful support and encouragement mentors provide their mentees.
We would like to congratulate the winners of the Competition:

Remember, there is no cost involved in the program registration. By registering your program details on our online database, you will also be adding your voice to the growing number of youth mentoring programs demanding that funding bodies take a more serious look at mentoring.
