Victorian Youth Mentoring Week will be held from Monday, 30th June 2008 to Sunday, 6th July 2008. It is a great opportunity to celebrate and raise the profile of youth mentoring across Victoria.   Boxes, events and surveys!

What a busy time here in the new YMN office! We have unpacked all the boxes and have our emails back up and running. Now we are back at work organising our next NRGize workshop and planning a new training package for those practitioners who have worked in the field for a number of years. As always your views and opinions are essential to the development of our services so please keep an eye out for our new survey which will be asking you to provide details of your professional development needs.

We are also working closely with the University of Western Sydney completing a piece of research on the partnerships mentoring programs form with other organisations in the community. We are almost finished testing the survey and will be sending that one out shortly as well. The results from both pieces of research will be made available on our website.
OSAT Competition

  Hurry!! Last days!

OSAT-new
Just a reminder that we are currently running a competition where you will go into a draw to win one of two $50 gift vouchers from your choice of either Myer or David Jones.

All you need to do is to login and complete OSAT by 30 June 2008. Winners will be notified in July and will also be announced in the July 2008 newsletter.

OSAT allows program staff to assess how well they are achieving each benchmark standard via a ratings system. Programs are then able to identify areas of strength and weakness. If an area of weakness is identified, programs will be able to access specific resources to assist with further development in this area to ensure an overall high quality program. Programs can complete the assessment at 1 point in time and compare their results in 6 or 12 months time. They can also anonymously compare their results against all other programs that have completed the tool.

If you have misplaced your username and password, please email use at info@youthmentoring.org.au and we will email you your login details. Hurry! You must complete OSAT by 30 June 2008.

Mentoring Stories

Cody and Paul

Cody and PaulCody and Paul are from the Plan-It Youth Mentoring Program, run by the NSW Department of Education and Training.  These two were well-matched from the outset. They found a great deal of common ground with their sporting interests but this has evolved into a positive outlook on life and its uncertainties.  It's been great to watch them joke about trivial matters but then concentrate on the more serious matters with common ambition.

Cody said that "I have overcome a lot of difficulties in my life... Paul is funny... He has become a good friend."

Paul says he has a lot of admiration for Cody. "I think he can go a long way... He has a good control of English and expresses himself well..."
