Use OSAT and Win!
Have you used the online self assessment tool (OSAT)? Did you use OSAT previously? With the end of the financial year approaching, now is the time to start using OSAT or re-use OSAT to determine whether you are still achieving each youth mentoring benchmark standard.
OSAT allows program staff to assess how well they are achieving each benchmark standard via a ratings system. Programs are then able to identify areas of strength and weakness. If an area of weakness is identified, programs can access specific resources to assist with further development in this area to ensure an overall high quality program. Programs can complete the assessment at 1 point in time and compare their results in 6 or 12 months time. They can also anonymously compare their results against all other programs that have completed the tool.
As an added incentive to use OSAT, if you login and complete OSAT by 30 June 2008, you will go into a draw to win one of two $50 gift vouchers from your choice of either Myer or David Jones. Winners will be notified in July and will also be announced in the July 2008 newsletter.
If you have misplaced your username and password, please email use at info@youthmentoring.org.au and we will email you your login details. Hurry, you must complete OSAT by 30 June 2008 to be in the draw! |

YMN Research - Forum Groups
The Youth Mentoring Network, in conjunction with the University of Western Sydney, is conducting research to learn more about the partnerships youth mentoring organisations form with other youth service providers. Many youth mentoring organisations are receiving funding grants which require them to form partnerships with other community organisations. We want to know how they developed these relationships, what resources did they use and what resources are still needed. At the conclusion of our research, we hope to have examples of best practice models that all mentoring programs are then able to use.
We will be conducting several focus groups in NSW, SA, QLD and VIC from May to July 2008. We would like stakeholders to be part these focus groups and contribute to this important piece of research. Each focus group will be held for approximately 1 hour and refreshments will be provided.
If you would like to participate in the focus groups, please email us at info@youthmentoring.org.au. |

Shontell and Jan
Shontelle and her mentor, Jan, are participating in the GR8 MATES school-based youth mentoring program, run by the Schools Industry Partnership, which operates in the Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury and Penrith areas in NSW. Now in Year 10, Shontelle has been exploring possible career options with Jan.
Jan helped Shontelle organise some work experience at 'Braid-Wood' Salon in Glenbrook. Shontelle says she has grown in self-confidence since having this work experience one day a week during the first term (2008), whilst at the same time gaining some useful employability skills.
