Proposed Amendments to the Bylaws
Two changes to The Junior League of Miami's Bylaws are proposed below. When changes to the Bylaws are proposed, it is required that a 2/3rds vote of the membership present and voting at a meeting, approve the proposed amendment(s). Please be advised that the following motions will be presented for voting at the February 9th General Membership Meeting at Temple Judea, located at 5500 Granada Boulevard, Coral Gables, FL 33146-2698. The meeting will begin at 7PM.
(1) Bylaws, Article XI, Section 11.01B(3):
"...The candidate receiving the highest number of votes, and has been an active member with at least 3 years of service, shall be elected for a two-year term, serving as Chair-Elect of the Nominating Committee the first year and as Chair of Nominating Committee for the second year. If for any reason she is unable to serve, the person receiving the next highest number of votes on the ballot, and has been an active member with at least 3 years of service, shall serve as the Chair-Elect for the first year and the Chair for the second year..."
Rationale: The Nominating Committee believes that a League member with 3+ years of experience is more likely to possess the necessary skill set and understanding of our League's leadership grid to serve as Chair-Elect and ultimately, Chair of the Nominating Committee. The requirement of 3+ years of experience in order to be elected to the Chair-Elect position, ensures there has been ample opportunity for the League member to garner the necessary knowledge to select leaders which will carry on the legacy of The Junior League of Miami that each of us, as members, have helped to create. Therefore, the Chair shall be the person with the most votes overall from the 3+ years of service group.
(2) If the preceding motion should pass, the following section of The Bylaws will also require amendment:
Bylaws, Article XI, Section 11.01B(1):
(1) Personnel: "The Nominating Committee shall consist of ten voting members, including the Chair and Chair-Elect. It may also include the immediate Past President who shall serve in a non-voting advisory capacity. Seven members must be present to vote on candidates for the nominated positions. The candidate receiving the highest number of votes, regardless of years of service with at least 3 years of service, shall be elected for a two-year term serving as Chair-Elect for the first year and as Chair of the Nominating Committee for the second year. A member of the Nominating Committee, or a member serving in an advisory capacity, shall resign her position on the Committee prior to consideration for her nomination to a slated position with the exception of Association and statewide positions." |
