Rain is grace; rain is the sky condescending to the earth; without rain, there would be no life.
~John Updike, American writer, 1932-2009 |
Just add water...and our muted wilderness comes alive in a symphony of sound and color. Sandy washes and dry waterfalls (like Laguna Coast Wilderness Park's Laurel Falls) echo with the music of running water. Amphibians raise their voices in resonant chorus. Dusty chaparral glows with rain-washed vibrancy. Brown hillsides grow green again, and, after a few sunny stretches, the technicolor brights of the first wildflowers emerge. Over 8 inches of rainfall was measured at the Nix Nature Center for the month of January alone. During rainy periods, remember to call LCWP at 949-923-2235 or visit http://www.ocparks.com for weather-related closures and cancellations. By heeding park closures after heavy rain you can minimize damage to parkland and help us KEEP IT WILD. |
