Hit a tripwire of smell and memories explode all at once. A complex vision leaps out of the undergrowth.

Many of nature's best scents come from native plants. One of the most fragrant species in our Coastal Sage Scrub plant community, commonly called California Sagebrush, is not even a true sage. If someone wanted to bottle the sharp, fresh smell of the Wild West, Artemisia californica would provide it. Schoolchildren who have hiked the South Coast Wilderness with OC Park rangers or Laguna Canyon Foundation naturalists will recognize the smell of "cowboy cologne." Blended with the equally strong aromas of black and white sage, this unforgettable mixture will trigger memories of our native surroundings for many years to come. Preserving sensual experiences like this is another reason to help us KEEP IT WILD. |
Enjoy Father's Day in the wild with a leisurely, 2-mile hike in Little Sycamore Canyon on Sunday, June 21. See our complete calendar at http://www.lagunacanyon.org/events.html. For reservations, please call 949-923-2235.
Laguna Canyon Foundation is a donor-supported 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving, protecting and enhancing the South Coast Wilderness.
