| Waiting Children |
The adoption landscape has changed over the past several decades. Dillon has taken the opportunity to develop programs in new countries as well as redeveloping our existing programs.
One of the changes we have made over the past several years is to create a separate program to highlight the Waiting Children in our many country programs. Currently there are Waiting Children in China, South Korea, India, Ethiopia, and new country programs are being added.
It takes a team of caring professionals to keep the Waiting Child program running smoothly. At Dillon this team researches the children's needs, keeps information on each child up-to-date, makes sure the children receive the medical care they need and works to match the right family with the right child.
A waiting child might be:
- an older child
- a child with special needs
- a sibling group
You can learn more about our waiting children on our web page and view information about individual children by completing the screening form for the country program you want information about. |
| Haiti Update | |
Children in Haiti are receiving medical care in the aftermath of the earthquake. Here they are all getting vitamins.
In the initial emergency after the earthquake Dillon International worked with our staff in Haiti to provide for the immediate needs of the children and communities devastated by the destruction.
Now, three months later, our Haiti staff is in the midst of long-term rebuilding projects. The hospital, the village and the orphanage are all having construction done, but the most urgent need is the hospital.
There are still about 50 patients in the hospital and their families have joined them since there is no other place for them to go. All care is free of charge and no one is turned away as long as we can provide for their care. Since the earthquake more than 9,000 patients have been treated at the hospital and mobile clinics and more than 100 people are receiving care for their wounds, physical therapy and psychological support.
The children are also receiving ongoing medical care including psychological support. In addition to the work at the hospital more than 500 relief kits of food, blankets, hygiene packages and water have been distributed to many orphanages, church groups and families, and we are grateful for all the donations that continue to come in.
For more information from Gladys on the situation in Haiti click here.

After the earthquake in Haiti Fleet Feet owners and Dillon family Tim and Lori Dreiling designed a t-shirt with sale proceeds going to support the relief effort. This month they presented Dillon International with $4,500 from the t-shirt sales. The money will go toward the children and programs we support in Haiti.
Please visit the orphanCare International websiteoften for up-to-date reports on each of our countries. You can also contact our office at tonnie@dillonadopt.com or 918-749-4600. Thank you for caring!

Monthly Feature |
Jennifer DiStefano and her husband, James, adopted from Guatemala in 2004. They continue to help other children find forever families by serving as Dillon Area Representatives, helping families interested in adoption learn more about the adoption process.
Way to go Jennifer!
"At the age of 16 I spent a summer helping my parents to build a church and hospital in Ciudad Victoria in Mexico. These facilities were on property that also contained an orphanage where I was also privileged to serve. I knew at the time that I would someday adopt a child who needed a mom.
When I grew up I married an adult adoptee, my husband James, who also felt led to adopt. After our three homegrown children we decided to continue to build our family through international adoption.
We chose Dillon because I knew of their incredible reputation in my hometown of Tulsa. Our son Joe, Guatemala 2004, was a waiting child and came home with some special needs. Although he has been home for almost six years I continue to make use of the incredible post adoption resources available to Dillon families.
Our family recently participated in Guatemala Weekend, where our oldest children could volunteer to help at the event and Joe could learn about his culture and its incredible value to our family.
While Joe's needs make it difficult to consider another adoption I feel driven to still help other orphans find their forever family."
