Dillon Rockstars!
Monthly Feature |
|
Courtney Spitler, is a mom of three, but that doesn't slow her down! Courtney and John are Dillon Area Representatives and Caring Hearts for the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. They are currently organizing a fundraising golf tournament to support Dillon's humanitarian aid. Way to go Courtney!!
"After our youngest daughter joined our family from Korea in April of 2008, we were surprised by how many questions we got about the adoption process from people we came in contact with.
We realized that while many people had considered adoption, they may not have had anyone around them to help answer questions or share experiences. The amount of information out there is overwhelming, and sometimes not positive or accurate, so it was easy to see why many families just decided not to pursue adoption.
We had such a positive and professional relationship with Dillon, and such a sense of comfort and trust with them, we knew we wanted to work with them to promote adoptions in a positive way.
In 2009, we became Area Representatives for Dillon, holding monthly meetings to answer questions and provide information specific to Dillon and the countries they partner with. Our favorite thing to share with prospective adoptive families is how Dillon prayed earnestly over our daughter before giving us her referral, and how they continued to pray for and with us throughout the process. God was truly in that, because there is no doubt that Annalee is our girl!
We also became members of the Caring Hearts group in 2009. We passionately feel it is important to raise awareness about the children whose lives are touched by Dillon, but who may never have a forever family of their own. We are organizing a golf tournament in the fall of 2010 to benefit Dillon's humanitarian aid, and are excited at the chance to directly help children in need through Dillon.
Dillon has been a true blessing in our life: not only in assisting us in growing our family, but in their ongoing support, education and care. We are so thankful that we will have Dillon to help us as we navigate the waters of being a multi-cultural family in the years to come, and that they also provide us a way to give back and raise awareness for something that is close to our hearts: forever families." -Courtney Spitler

You Can Help! |
What many children need is easy... simple... they need YOU. Many children are waiting for an education, vaccinations to help ensure their health, medical procedures, or to know that their home, whether a foster home or an orphanage, will be there for them as long as they will need.
At Dillon our goal is to find a safe, loving home for every child that comes under our care. You may not be in a position to adopt a child but you can still help a child to have a safe, loving place to live.
Your gifts support and bless many children and we are forever grateful to the donors who entrust us with this honor.

Lunar New Year a Success! |
The Year of the Tiger provided great entertainment to more than 340 guests this year as those of us in Oklahoma braved the wintery weather for the 15th annual Lunar New Year dinner and auction. The proceeds amounted to almost $90,000 which will all benefit our programs designed to aid children all over the world.

Looking Back at 2009 |
With the end of the decade, 2009 brought many changes to Dillon. Most of those changes provided us and our families with new opportunies to grow and learn as we begin the new year.
- We are starting programs in Ghana, Nepal and Honduras
- Our Pre-adoption classes are now online.
- Area Representative and Caring Hearts programs continue to expand and grow.
- 106 children came home in 2009
- Affiliation with Buckner allowed us to offer adoptions in Russia and Ethiopia.

Haiti Update |
We are so grateful to all of you who have helped with the earthquake relief in Haiti!
You have helped to raise almost $55,000 (so far) for food, medical supplies, fuel for the hospital's generators, mattresses for the hospital, and much more.
Jerry Dillon visited Gladys last month to offer his support and take supplies. Click here to see a video interview he filmed.
Rebecca Hackworth, director of Haiti adoptions, left last week to help in Haiti.
Through our affiliation with Buckner we have also been shipping containers of supplies to Haiti. Click here for a complete list of needed supplies.
GOOD NEWS: We received clearance for a couple of our children to come home. The family is so happy to be home!
New adoptions in Haiti are still suspended until the government is capable of processing the new applications. Families wanting more information about adopting from Haiti should visit this site and fill out the online form.
