Chili Bowl Team

Three Cheers for Cottage Cheese!

The annual intramural football league, which culminates at the Chili Bowl on Friday, October 31, is well underway! Our very own undergrad team, affectionately named "Cottage Cheese" in honor of our founder's initial vision for Regent, is in third place with a 4-1 record.

The Central Alumni Office has noticed record attendance at the regularly scheduled games, and they expect a great turnout at the Chili Bowl. Sources say that the Undergrad team is exuberant, hardworking, and would love to see RSU support them and their regular games and hopefully at the championship Chili Bowl tailgate at 12 noon on October 31.

Happy October!  In keeping with my series on the 2008 election coverage, this month's entry will focus in on the candidates and their agendas.  As this is my last pre-election article, I feel it important to lay it all out on the proverbial table so we can weigh the evidence.  It is my wish that you will be able to use this information to make an informed, Godly decision when casting your vote.

The following table represents a highlight of some of the many "hotspots" debated over the last few weeks.  I highly recommend that you review specific candidate websites for further information (links provided at article end).

The 2008 presidential election continues to take exciting turns as Barack Obama and Sarah Palin launch the United States voting process into a landmark event.  As I saw Obama accept his nomination followed by Palin being introduced as the Republican Vice-President choice, I felt moved to tears as I knew I was watching history-in-the-making.  This is the election we will be reading about in history books and that is exciting.

Check out more info on the candidates' official websites:John McCain and Barack Obama

As always, I would love to hear from you - so don't hesitate to send me an email.

Blessings!!

Michan MyerThe Undergraduate Guide to Love

By Michan Myer
English Major

We live in a lost and dying world; people are broken and hurting.  From the surly gas station attendant to the desperate single mother, people are crying out for answers-for someone to see them, to hear them-but mostly, to love them.  So how do we love the people who cut us off in traffic and the obnoxious teens swearing on the street corners?  A friend forwarded me a song recently that answers perfectly:  We ask God for His eyes to see them and His heart to love them.  We ask God to reveal to us how HE feels about them so that we can feel it too.  This is my prayer-that God would draw us from our comfortable, posh lives and give us His heart for humanity.  Only when we have this revelation can we truly reach the hopeless people that are literally DYING for someone to love them.

A man stopped me in the grocery store--commenting on my playful sons-and in two minutes, I found out that he sent his son (a helicopter pilot) back to Iraq the day after they found out his wife was pregnant for the third time after two miscarriages.  It set me to thinking; how many people have I missed that needed someone to listen-to care enough about them to stop and ask-because I was wrapped up in my own problems and forgetting Jesus' command to "love one another" (John 13:34)?
This part of the session always gets a little hectic and overwhelming, and it's so easy to get wrapped up in papers and Blackboard posts-so easy to forget what why we're really here.  Take some time (right now if you've got it), and ask God to show you HIS heart.  You won't be disappointed.  Let the revelation of love that "looks like a cross"-sacrificial and total-hit you. Let God give you His heart for His people, and love them as He loves you.

Check out Brandon Heath's song "Give Me Your Eyes" and Stacey Campbell's powerful message "The Highway Byway Revival."

I call each of you BLESSED in the Mighty and Matchless name of Jesus!

As always, I welcome your questions, comments, and testimonies!  Please email me at michmy2@regent.edu
