Spring Benefit at Dia:Beacon
Dia:Beacon, Riggio Galleries 3 Beekman Street Beacon New York
Dia Art Foundation celebrates its annual Spring Benefit, a full day of art and performance that provides vital support for Dia. The 2012 Benefit will commence with a performance of dance works by choreographer and filmmaker Yvonne Rainer, followed by a seated lunch amidst John Chamberlain's sculptures. A family program will be offered during lunch for younger guests.

Babette Mangolte on Yvonne Rainer

Babette Mangolte was born in France in 1941. Upon moving to New York City in 1970, she became involved in the experimental theatre, film, and dance scenes. In 1972, Mangolte was commissioned as photographer and cinematographer for Yvonne Rainer's first film, Lives of Performers, and shortly after, for A Film about a Woman Who... (1974). Mangolte started directing her own films in the mid-1970s. Most recently, her photography and films have been included in international exhibitions such the 5th Berlin Biennial for Contemporary Art (2008); Whitney Biennial (2010); and While Bodies Get Mirrored, Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zurich (2010).

Edward Vazquez is an assistant professor of modern and contemporary art at Middlebury College. He received a Ph.D. in Art and Art History from Stanford University in 2009, and his doctoral research focused on the American sculptor Fred Sandback (1943-2003).

Elaine Equi is the author of numerous collections of poetry, including Voice-Over (1998); Ripple Effect: New & Selected Poems (2007), which was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Award and on the short list for the Griffin Poetry Prize; and most recently, Click and Clone (2011). Jerome Sala is the author of many cult classics, including Look Slimmer Instantly (2005); Raw Deal: New & Selected Poems 1980-94 (1994); I Am Not a Juvenile Delinquent (1985); Spaz Attack (1980); and most recently Prom Night (2011). His writing has appeared widely in publications such as The Best American Poetry, the Nation, Rolling Stone, and Pleiades.
