Dia and exhibition curator Lynne Cooke have invited four contemporary artists for whom Palermo's work has been important to lead walkthroughs of the Dia:Beacon installation and explore Palermo's Metal Pictures and late works in the context of his artistic development.

This series commences with a walkthrough led by artist Josiah McElheny, who, in conjunction with Blinky Palermo: Retrospective 1964-1977, is currently exhibiting three recreations of Palermo wall drawings and paintings at CCS Bard as part of the exhibition that he curated with Cooke and CCS Bard director Tom Eccles.

Josiah McElheny lives and works in New York. His works in sculpture, performance and film, as well as writing and curatorial projects, have often focused on connecting social and political history to aesthetics. Recent publications include The Light Club (2010); the monograph Josiah McElheny: A Prism (2010); and A Space for an Island Universe (2009).

Dia is pleased to host poet and translator Matvei Yankelevich at The Dan Flavin Art Institute for a reading and discussion of his own work within the context of Koo Jeong A's series of ink drawings and Dan Flavin's fluorescent sculptures.

The Dan Flavin Art Institute was established in 1983, under the direction of Flavin himself, as a permanent home for nine works in fluorescent light created by the artist between 1963 and 1981, in addition to a gallery for temporary exhibitions. Currently, 60 newly commissioned works on photographic paper by contemporary artist Koo Jeong A are on view through October 16, 2011.

Matvei Yankelevich is the author of Boris by the Sea (Octopus Books) and the forthcoming poetry collection In the Sunlight of Unemployment (United Artists). His translations from Russian have been published in magazines including Harper's and The New Yorker. He is an editor at Ugly Duckling Presse, and currently teaches at Hunter College, Columbia University School of the Arts, and the Milton Avery Graduate School of the Arts at Bard College.
