MCAH Toolbox:
A Healthy Baby Begins with You

"A Healthy Baby Begins with You" is a national campaign to raise awareness about infant mortality, especially within the African-American community. This campaign, which offers an online media kit, supports local health departments in their efforts to address health inequities among populations disproportionately affected by poor birth outcomes.

Model Practice Submissions Now Open!

NACCHO is now accepting model practice applications, through Nov. 11. Is your LHD doing something innovative in the field of maternal, child, and adolescent health? If so, consider submitting an application to NACCHO's Model Practice program. This program has honored innovative LHD programs since 2003. If you have any questions concerning the Model Practice program, please e-mail the NACCHO membership team. For more information, visit NACCHO's website.

Save Babies through Screening Foundation Website

The Save Babies through Screening Foundation strives to improve the lives of children and their families, by working to prevent disabilities and death resulting from disorders detectable through newborn screening tests. Their website includes information and resources for parents, health care professionals, and policymakers to increase awareness of the benefits of newborn screening. Visit their website to learn more.

Text4baby Encourages Moms to Get the Flu Shot

Text4baby will be launching a new feature to their program to encourage moms to get flu shots. Educational messages about the flu shot and an option for flu shot appointment reminders are part of this new feature. A pilot program will be launched in five states on Oct. 25. The service will be offered nationally to all active subscribers starting Oct. 27. Stay tuned for updates about this exciting addition!

ACHIEVE Request for Applications
NACCHO announces a request for applications for ACHIEVE (Action Communities for Health, Innovation, and EnVironmental changE). Local health departments are invited to apply to become an ACHIEVE community. Three new communities (mentees) and three current ACHIEVE communities (mentors) will be selected. Both potential applicants must submit a joint application. For more information about ACHIEVE and to apply, please visit the ACHIEVE website.
