Shabbat Shelach
Candle Lighting: 21:41
End of Shabbat: 23:12
Blessing Transliteration:
Boruch A-toh Ado-noi E-lo-hei-nu Me-lech Ha-olam A-sher Ki-de-shan-nu Be-mitz-vo-sov Ve-tzi-va-nu Le-had-lik Ner Shel Shabbat Ko-desh.
It is a great mitzvah and responsibility to honor the Sabbath by lighting candles 18 minutes before sunset on Friday evening. This unique commandment, entrusted to the Jewish woman, is rich with meaning and purpose.
It is very important to know the exact candle-lighting time, as we are not allowed, under any circumstances, to kindle these lights after sunset. |

Wellsprings
Only pure water can purify. The further you wish to take that water, the deeper your wellspring must be. Those who wish to reach to the very outside and enlighten and purify that place, they must reach deep into the womb of truth.

Friday night Kabalat Shabbat 20:00
Friends
Hi, I hope you had a good week.
As you know, at this time, just a stone's throw away from the European synagogue, the EU Summit is well underway. For a full review of what transpired and what will result from it, please join us this Shabbat.
We also will be reviewing the most famous spy operation ever to be uncovered. It's been written and studied the world over for more than 3000 years now and still proves to have many lessons to learn from until this present day. It takes place in this week's Torah portion so come find out what can we can learn from it today.
This Shabbat is Shabbat Mevorchim Tammuz so join in Shul and you will have the opportunity to bless the upcoming month!
Looking forward to seeing you.
May we speedily merit true freedom with the coming of Moshiach!
Shabbat Shalom,
Michoel Rosenblum |

"The first portion of your dough, Challah, you shall give a gift to the Lord in [all] your generations."
It is from this verse in Parshat Shelach that our Sages learn the Mitzvah of Challah-separating a fistful of dough before the bread is baked. In Biblical times, this piece of dough would be baked and presented to a priest in the Holy Temple. Today we still take off a small handful of dough, recite a blessing, and burn it since we have no priests working in the Holy Temple to donate it to. Doing this Mitzvah reminds us that it is G-d who provides for our daily needs, and even mundane tasks must be imbued with an aspect of holiness.
The Hebrew word עֲרִסה used in the verse to mean "dough," can also be used for "cradle." From this stems the well known Jewish tradition that children, like Challah, have to be consecrated for holiness and G-dly pursuits from the onset. However, what connection can we find to relate children to bread, other than the double meaning to a word?
The word Challah-חלה- is written with three Hebrew letters, each of which has a numerical value and symbolize the first three stages of a child's spiritual development: ח is 8, representing the 8th day after birth when a baby boy has a Brit Milah (circumcision.)
ל equals 30, and a Pidyan Haben (Redemption of the Firstborn) takes place on the 30th day of a baby's life.
ה is the number 5, at which age one begins to teach a child Torah.
Children are just like Challah; the more work is put in the dough, the better the bread; the more that is invested in a child's education ensures a child with a stronger Jewish identity.
Shabbat Shalom! |
Yes you should!
You can make a difference
now more then ever!
Thank you

The Parsha in a Nutshell
Shelach - Numbers 13:1- 15:41
Moses sends twelve spies to the Land of Canaan. Forty days later they return, carrying a huge cluster of grapes, a pomegranate and a fig, to report on a lush and bountiful land. But ten of the spies warn that the inhabitants of the land are giants and warriors "more powerful than we"; only Caleb and Joshua insist that the land can be conquered, as G-d has commanded. The people weep that they'd rather return to Egypt. G-d decrees that Israel's entry into the Land shall be delayed forty years, during which time that entire generation will die out in the desert. A group of remorseful Jews storm the mountain on the border of Land and are routed by the Amalekites and Canaanites. The laws of the menachot (meal, wine and oil offerings) are given, as well as the mitzvah to consecrate a portion of the dough (challah) to G-d when making bread. A man violates the Shabbat by gathering sticks and is put to death. G-d instructs to place fringes (tzitzit) on the four corners of our garments so that we should remember to fulfill the mitzvot (Divine commandments). | |

A BIT OF HUMOR
