Sure, it may be a winter wonderland outside, but your hands look like the Sahara. Exfoliate and moisturize with a yogurt scrub recommended by Stephanie Tourles, beauty expert and author of Naturally Healthy Skin (Storey Publishing, 1999). Simply add 1 tablespoon of plain yogurt to a small bowl, 1 tablespoon of white or brown sugar, and 1 tablespoon of almond, olive, sesame, or jojoba oil. Stir well to blend into a paste. Apply to hands, scrubbing between your fingers and palms for two minutes. Rinse with warm water. Your hands should feel soft and smooth.

face masksHONEY AND ALMOND MOISTURIZING FACE MASK

The combination of honey and ground almonds makes this mask smell good enough to eat! Although it feels very sticky, and takes a lot of washing off, this is nonetheless a wonderful face mask, and worth the effort. The honey and almond moisturizing face mask is particularly good for mature, sensitive, or dry skin, but is suitable for all skin types.

What's in it?
1 large tsp honey
1 tbsp ground almonds
Enough warm water to mix to a spreadable paste

How's it made?
1 Warm the honey in a small bowl immersed in hot water until it becomes liquid.
2. Put the ground almonds into another small bowl. Add the melted honey and mix well, adding a little warm water to obtain a spreadable consistency.
3. Immediately apply the mask to a cleansed face and rest for ten to fifteen minutes.
4. Finally, wash off the mask with warm water and apply a toner and moisturizer.

DRY SKIN CONDITIONER

The olive oil moisturizes, the honey hydrates, and the vinegar helps to maintain the acid mantle!

2 tsp. apple cider vinegar
1 tsp. olive oil
1 tsp. honey

Mix all of the ingredients together. Apply to your face and leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse off with tepid water. Gently pat your face dry. You may finish by applying rosewater to your skin if desired.

SAFE COSMETICS FROM WHOLE FOODS MARKET

Whole Foods pbc_buttonPeople are looking for safer, more natural body care products, but there is a great deal of confusion about what "natural" really means. So last year Whole Foods Market, a natural and organic foods superstore, established a new quality standard for safe cosmetics.

They spent two years of tough scientific research and appraisal, to help give concerned consumers something to rely on.

According to Whole Foods, they are bringing to their clients the most wholesome body care products the market place has ever seen.

CHORIZO AND SWEET PEPPER SAUTÉ WITH CRUSTY BREAD

chorizoMakes: 8 Servings.
Prep: 15 minutes. Cook: 10 minutes.

1 tablespoon olive oil
4 Spanish chorizo sausages (about 12 ounces total), sliced on the bias into ¼-inch slices
2 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
¼ cup dry red wine (such as Rioja)
5 large sweet red and yellow peppers, roasted (see Note) or purchase in a jar
2 tablespoons chopped parsley
¼ teaspoon salt
⅛ teaspoon black pepper
6 slices (1-inch thick) crusty bread, lightly toasted
Olive oil for drizzling, optional

1. Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add chorizo and cook until browned, about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Add garlic and cook for another minute until golden. Raise heat to high and add red wine. Cook until wine is reduced to a glaze.
2. Slice the roasted peppers into 1-inch-wide strips and add to skillet. Stir in parsley and salt and pepper and stir to combine and heat through.
3. Spoon over toasted bread. Drizzle with additional olive oil, if desired.
Note: To roast peppers, heat broiler. Coat broiler pan with cooking spray. Cut peppers lengthwise in quarters; remove core and seeds. Brush skin side with oil. Broil 4 inches from heat, with skin facing heat, until blackened and blistered, about 6 to 8 minutes. Remove to bowl; cover with plastic wrap. Let stand 5 minutes. Peel off skin.
