PRIMARY ELECTION

A big thank you to all who took the time last month to vote in the 2010 primary election.  The IADA feel good about the election results and we look forward to working with incoming freshmen legislators.  FYI - Our very own Kathy Sims of Coeur d'Alene Honda won her primary race and is now focusing her campaign on her general election challenger this coming November.  CONGRATULATIONS KATHY!!!!

AUTOMOTIVE COATING OPERATIONS GENERAL PERMIT

DEQ WILL BE ATTENDING THE IADA CONVENTION TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS AND CONCERNS.  IF YOU FEEL MORE CLARIFICATION IS NEEDED WITH THIS PERMIT PLEASE ATTEND THE TRADE SHOW ON TUESDAY THE 14TH IN SV.

Many dealership have contacted the IADA about a letter that was issued by the Idaho DEQ regarding a General Air Quality Permit for automotive coating operations in the state of Idaho.

IADA is aware of the proposed rule for air quality permits and DEQ has contacted us about working with our membership.  Interestingly enough DEQ does not know which dealers do or do not have auto body shops that need this type of permit.  What IADA had hoped for was that the letter you received would reach our membership and get the message spread faster coming from DEQ rather than us.  IADA has held classes in March on this issues to get dealers informed and posted notices to our newsletter and website.

We understand that it's never exciting, or cheep, to get these type of compliance notices especially from the DEQ.  However, this is a federal mandate that was handed down to all states requiring this type of permit.  IADA will continue to inform the membership after the comment period is over and has learn what is entailed in the process ahead.

Regulatory Updates

Wall Street Journal - Reader Poll, CFPB

The Wall Street Journal has an electronic poll (new out just this morning) asking whether or not auto dealers should be exempted from the federal legislation creating the new consumer financial protection agency.

Please go online through the attached link and weigh in "YES" in favor of the dealer exemption. Also please forward Internally to as many knowledgeable dealership personnel who would be reliable YES vote submitters as well.

Should auto dealers be exempt from regulation by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, as proposed in the House's financial reform package?

http://online.wsj.com/community/groups/question-day-229/topics/should-auto-dealers-exempt-regulation

As Ben Bernanke, Barney Frank and Timothy Geithner help shape the financial-regulation overhaul in Congress, people who know them say they may be willing to negotiate on parts of the bill they don't view as core, while being intractable on pieces they view as elemental. That could mean agreeing to allow auto dealers to be exempt from new lending rules.

Should auto dealers be exempt? Would the new rules prevent them from lending to otherwise qualified customers with troubled credit, and prevent people from getting the automobiles they need? Would the regulatory oversight strain the auto industry, still struggling to emerge from the credit crisis?

Dealers to Conferees: Auto Dealer Language is Pro-Consumer and Prevailed in Both the House and Senate

Keeps Credit Affordable and Accessible

WASHINGTON, June 4 - NADA urges House and Senate conferees to keep finance options for car buyers affordable and accessible when considering legislation to overhaul the nation's financial system.

"The House and Senate sent a very clear and bipartisan message that Main Street auto dealerships should not be in a Wall Street reform bill," says David Regan, NADA vice president of legislative affairs.

During consideration of the Wall Street reform legislation, members of Congress voted to keep in place the sound regulatory structure that has allowed millions of consumers to buy new vehicles at competitive interest rates instead of creating an uncertain regulatory regime under a new agency
