DO YOU THINK THOSE DC VISITS REALLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE?  DO YOU THINK REP. MINNICK LISTENED TO YOUR EMAILS AND THE VISIT? LOUD & CLEAR "YES"

The Early Returns on the CFPA Vote

The battle over the consumer financial protection agency has already revealed who has the real political juice and who's losing ground in the fight to rewrite the nation's financial regulations. The National Automobile Dealers Association with help from the state a metro auto dealer associations waged an intense grass-roots lobbying campaign to make most of its dealers exempt from the CFPA's reach - and it showed. Democrats joined Republicans to overrule (Rep. Barney Frank's) opposition to adopt the exemption for auto dealers on a 47-21 vote. An even more significant sign of the clout auto dealers have on Capitol Hill: When it became clear that the measure had enough votes to pass, at least five Democrats switched their "no" votes to "yes," aligning themselves with their local auto dealers.

Please all Rep. Minnick to thank him for his opposition to the creation of the Consumer Financial Protection Agency that would regulate automobile financing and his support for the Campbell amendment.

GMAC AND CHRYSLER FINANCIAL MEET ON CRITICAL DEALER FLOORPLAN ISSUES

NADA continues to work with Chrysler Financial, GMAC, Chrysler, dealers, and others to address the critical issues facing many Chrysler dealers as they seek to move their floorplan loans from Chrysler Financial to GMAC; including outstanding differences between Chrysler Financial and GMAC over the adequacy of, and priority in dealer collateral that are preventing many of these dealers from obtaining "non-interim" floorplan financing from GMAC.

NADA has made all parties aware of the urgent need to resolve these issues and can report that the parties have been meeting in an effort to reach a resolution. While NADA is pleased that Chrysler Financial, GMAC, and others are working to reach an agreement regarding these dealers, it is vital that this issue be resolved immediately. In addition, this is only one of several outstanding concerns regarding the availability of floorplan financing, all of which must be resolved at the earliest possible time to avoid potentially disastrous consequences for affected dealers and for Chrysler.

It has been reported that GMAC is seeking additional public aid from the Treasury Department. NADA believes that all of the issues surrounding Chrysler dealer floorplan loans should be fully resolved as a part of such funding.
