CASH FOR CLUNKERS
IDAHO "CLUNKER" OUTLOOK
News organizations and reporters are most interested in the local/state impact of the CARS program; localizing the national story.
In Idaho, IADA previously predicted a range of 2,200 to 2,900 new cars would be sold under the program. Utilizing the DOT-NHTSA data, provided in their Aug. 26th release, and an average of $4,170 per car certificate value, the number of cars sold under the CARS program in Idaho came in at the high end of our estimated range, at 2,795 units

REGULATORY UPDATES
Dealers Unite on Dealer Rights Proposal
As a result of discussions late last week, all of the dealer groups have united behind a common proposal to restore dealer rights. That includes NADA, ATAE (the organization that represents automotive trade association executives), NAMAD (National Association of Minority Automotive Dealers) and CRDR (the Committee to Restore Dealer Rights).
"We are pleased that all of the dealer groups are now on the same page," says NADA Chairman John McEleney. (Continued)
RESTRICTED USE DEALER PLATES
Idaho DMV now has a Restricted Use Vehicle Dealer Plate that can be purchased by licensed Idaho dealers for $20 each. The plate is black lettering on white background and has "DLR" with your dealer number and sequential plate number. The dealer plate sticker expires the same as all other dealer plates, the dealer license expiration date.
The Department of Parks and Recreation sticker is not required for a Restricted Use Dealer Plate. The Idaho Transportation Department has an agreement with Parks & Recreation to waive their requirement for the offroad sticker for dealer demos.
A message has been sent to law enforcement to allow county road use and offroad use on an RU Dealer Plate without a Park & Recreation sticker.
Dealers may still purchase only offroad stickers for their inventory, but only if the offroad vehicle is actually never going to be operated on county roads and is being used off road only.
However, you need to be aware not only would your retail customer, who needs a regular county Restricted Use plate, have to purchase the plate if they plan to operate on local county roads open to such operation, but they will also have to purchase another offroad sticker again for the plate.
In the long run, for demo purposes, dealers would probably save money using the RU Dealer Plate because it can be transferred from vehicle to vehicle; whereas, the sticker is issued to and applied to the fork or fender of a specific vehicle and can't be transferred if your customer needs an RU plate.
The 'sticker only' option must be in the dealership name only. If a personal name is reflected on the registration database, sales tax is due. |

ASE offers online practice tests
ASE has launched The Official ASE Practice Tests. Available exclusively online, this new product provides those interested in pursuing ASE certification the opportunity to take practice tests, with questions of similar difficulty and format to those used on the ASE certification exams. The practice tests are half the length of the regular ASE tests and will provide feedback in the form of a performance report and explanations for correct answers and incorrect answers.
The practice tests were developed with working technicians who are subject matter experts familiar with standard ASE test-question development practices. For more information about these practice tests, visit ASE's Web site at www.ase.com.
One Year Anniversary of IVRS Since the IADA moved to the new web-based reporting service one year ago on September 8th, 2008, the association has done everything possible to make this new online IVRS program all that it can be. There were a few bugs that presented a challenge during the switch from hard copy old reports to the new online Idaho Vehicle Report Service system but the IADA overcame the challenges and now feels that the program is a very invaluable, stable, and reliable tool. The IVRS is a web-based program that creates a solution for car, truck, RV and boat title reports in Idaho. This program is accessible anywhere, anytime via a secure website. The IVRS allows for customizable reports that summarize title data so businesses can more efficiently identify and seize opportunities. The IADA will continue to strive for their goal of providing the best weekly updated "title/sold" market data available to subscribers 24/7! Dealer Community Accomplishments
BRONCO MOTORS HYUNDAI/NISSAN CREATES WORLD'S LARGEST SPORTS SLOGAN, WILL ATTEMPT GUINNESS WORLD RECORD Bronco Motors Hyundai/Nissan joined scores of Boise State football fans in showing their support of the #14 ranked Broncos for the season opener tomorrow night against the #16 ranked Oregon Ducks.
The Bronco Motors team rounded up over 100 "Cash For Clunkers" cars & trucks that their customers had traded in at their three Treasure Valley locations during the popular government CARS program. They put them on the site of their planned 3rd Hyundai dealership in Canyon County, the next store slated to open in the Bronco Motors family of dealerships, which is adjacent to their Nissan store at the Idaho Center Auto Mall in Nampa, Idaho. They arranged the vehicles in huge 50-yard-high letters spelling out "GO BSU". It took nearly 4 hours to complete the job
