Offer your customers a free Green Checkup
NADA is urging its members to offer free Green Checkups at their dealerships during the month of September. The Green Checkup focuses on the things that have the greatest effect on fuel economy, such as oil and air filters, engine performance, tire pressure and emission controls. Participating dealers can refer to the Green Checkup Guidelines, which provide the estimated tech hours to perform a Green Checkup.

Already, nearly 300 dealers in about 40 states have signed up to become Green Checkup Dealers. (Click here to sign up to become a Green Checkup Dealer.) Dealers may decide to provide the Green Checkup along with inspections of child passenger safety seats that are also offered at many dealerships in the month of September. "I know that's what I plan to do," Sykora says. "While customers wait in line to have their child safety seats inspected, we will offer them the option of having the Green Checkup." Although NADA is promoting Green Checkup Month in September, the program is designed for dealers to offer checkups as part of their routine service year-round. (more)

RED FLAG RULE GUIDANCE

Under the new federal "Red Flags Rule," most Dealers and other creditors must develop and implement a comprehensive Identity Theft Prevention Program by Nov. 1. To assist with compliance, NADA has issued A Dealer Guide to the FTC Red Flags and Address Discrepancy Rules: Protecting Against Identity Theft. The Guide explains the requirements under the new Rules, and includes detailed, step-by-step guidance on developing the written program required under the Red Flags Rule, as well as a sample written program, worksheets, and other helpful materials.

All members will should have recieved one free copy of the full Guide in the mail. The sample written program is also being made available upon request as a Word document - free to members - to aid dealers in developing written programs specific to their dealerships in advance of the compliance deadline. Issued by NADA Management Education, the Guide also will serve as the basis for two virtual seminars on the Red Flags Rule, on
Sept. 23.

2009 NADA CONVENTION & EXPO

January 24-27, New Orleans, LA

Registration is now open for the 2009 NADA Convention, themed "Voice of the Dealer...Committed to Community."  IADA reminds dealers that convention registration is required before reserving a hotel room.  Since hotel rooms fill quickly during the convention, it is recommended that dealers register for the event early to ensure they are able to reserve a room at the hotel they desire.
