Support our Students
|
It takes more than a traditional high school budget to help our students engineer their futures.
We need to invest in our world class machine shop, college- and career-prep program, and work-based projects and activities.
For example, our After School Matters beverage marketing team needs $800 to brand and sell their new product.
Please help by sending us a check, made out to the Center for Polytechnical Education, at 3411 West Diversey, Suite 10, Chicago, Illinois 60647.

Guest speaker shares advice for scholarship applications
|
On February 25, Mr. Corbin's Economics learned strategies for applying for college scholarships from guest speaker Mr. Et Winzer, Vice President of Sales and Delivery at Chase Bank.
Mr. Winzer shared valuable advice about how to tap into scholarship and financial aid resources and how students can make the most of the application process. The class found Mr. Winzer's insight useful and engaging. Several students asked questions, including junior Sharmaine Pryor (center).
Junior Brittany Trotter (right) commented, "This was a wonderful experience for learning more about college scholarships."

Partner Spotlight: UniqueActive
|
Special thanks to APA partner UniqueActive for their generosity in producing a new student recruitment brochure for Austin Polytech.
We worked with John X. Collins and graphic designer Sandra Vega to create a full-color, eight-page booklet detailing Austin Polytech's curriculum, career program, sports, clubs, and more. You can view the brochure online at www.polytechnical.org/apa.pdf.
"We were happy to be of use to Austin Polytech," said Mr. Collins. "They're filling a very important role in the community. If the Chicago area is going to remain economically successful, it's crucial that we have people with the kinds of skills APA is teaching its students."

Students reflect on job shadowing experiences
|
Sixteen juniors participated in job shadowing experiences in February and March. The eight host companies included Bearse USA, DeCardy Diecasting, Freedman Seating, Laystrom Manufacturing, and Tarney.
Students spent a half day meeting with company owners and employees to learn about the many different jobs involved in running a manufacturing business. On March 9, the job shadowing students came together to reflect on their experiences.
At left, Phyllicia Taylor shows off the new business card holder she earned by spending the day at Freedman Seating. Because students meet with so many employees during job shadowing, the experience is a great way to get a head start on networking.
Below, Chavon Trimble recalls his excitement over trying the laser cutting machine at Laystrom. The sophisticated equipment took up an entire room!
 | "It was a pleasure having the students here today," reported Robert Laystrom, president of host company Laystrom Manufacturing.
Michael Harris, above, had one of the longest distances to
travel for his job shadowing experience at UPS. An added benefit of job
shadowing is learning to use public transportation to get to work on time.
