About Us
Austin Polytechnical Academy is a small, public pre-engineering and manufacturing high school in Chicago. Our goal is to prepare students for college and careers in their favorite area of advanced manufacturing, which includes a variety of jobs like research, design, production, marketing, management, and even company ownership.

We work with partner companies to provide students with real guidance and work experience before graduation. All students will visit several companies to learn about how different businesses work. Austin Polytech will also link students with dedicated mentors, internship opportunities, and certifications to give them an edge in the job market.

Freshmen Visit Eli's Cheesecake and Wright College
The January 3rd field trip introduced freshmen to possible career tracks, which could begin on either of two rails: an entry-level position or post-secondary education.

Shelley Stern at CAATEli's Cheesecake was our freshmen's introduction to the world of manufacturing.

Throughout their high school experience, students will have opportunities to visit many more facilities.

Eli's Cheesecake Visit

Above, Mar
c Schulman, president of Eli's Cheesecake, accepts the Silver Partner Award for his company's commitment to Austin Polytech.

At Wright College, students saw a variety of ways to continue their education beyond high school. One of APA's goals is to instill each student with the spirit that education continues for a lifetime.
Job Shadowing Program Kicks Off
Thanks to our 11 host companies, a select group of juniors began their job shadowing experiences in February.

APA Junior Nikki GreenNikki Green visited Milhouse Engineering and Construction. During her workday, she participated in a conference call with a client to discuss electrical supply issues.

Nikki also attended a management meeting about upcoming projects, including work on a runway at O'Hare International Airport. "It really was a good experience," she said.

Marquiese Booker and Chavon Trimble visited Laystrom Manufactring Co., where they spoke with a number of employees and took a behind-the-scenes look at the manufacturing world.

"They asked a lot of intelligent questions and were respectful to all whom they met. It was a pleasure having them here today," reported Robert Laystrom, president.

Partner Spotlight: Modern Processing Equipment
Below, industrial coordinator Bill Vogel presents Dan Ephraim, president of Modern Processing Equipment, with an APA Gold Partner Award.

Dan regularly shares his valuable manufacturing experience at our Partner Advisory Meetings, which help us integrate manufacturing into the APA curriculum.

Special thanks
to Dr. George Cole and Modern Processing Equipment for their support of the APA Cafe, which has blossomed into a successful program.
