Become an Industry Partner
Help us educate the next generation of leaders in advanced manufacturing! Our partners provide financial resources, equipment, student mentoring and guidance, work-based projects, plant tours, and more.
Austin Polytechnical Academy (APA) is a small public high school in Chicago's West Side neighborhood of Austin. APA's mission is to educate the next generation of leaders in advanced manufacturing.
What makes APA different?
Our company partners help provide students with mentoring, work-based projects, and paid summer jobs and internships.
Our machine shop will allow every student to graduate with at least two industry-recognized NIMS certifications.
Our rigorous manufacturing-focused pre-engineering curriculum puts students on track to graduate ready for college and exciting careers in manufacturing that offer competitive pay, generous benefits, and ample opportunities for career advancement.

About the Center for Polytechnical Education
The Center for Polytechnical Education (CPE) is a 501c3 not-for-profit school operator. Our mission is to strengthen communities by developing educational programs that prepare students to be leaders in the 21st century knowledge economy.
CPE currently operates Austin Polytechnical Academy (APA), which opened in September 2007, and the Chicago Academy for Advanced Technology (CAAT), which will open in September 2009.
There is an old adage that states,"it takes one to know one" -- or in our case, "it takes a partner to find a partner." Austin Polytech needs your help to identify companies that will make good partners for the school. Do you know of another company making innovative use of technology to design and manufacture complex products, who believes in being in business for the long term, who is interested in finding and nurturing new talent? If so, please let me know. Together, we can expand our network to provide the highest quality career education for our students.
Also, the new machine shop project will be at the center of the discussion at our Advisory Committee meeting tomorrow. We will review the shop design and the list of proposed equipment. We need your input so we would like as many partners as possible to attend because the committee will vote whether or not to approve the project.

U.S. Senator Dick Durbin Visits Austin Polytech
U.S. Senator Dick Durbin (D-IL) paid a visit to Austin Polytech last Friday, April 24th, less than a week after Illinois was approved for $1.4 billion in education funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
During his visit, Sen. Durbin enjoyed a cup of coffee prepared especially for him by a group of students who own and operate a coffee business. The students grind, brew, and sell the coffee as part of APA's entrepreneurship program. "We sell at least 25 or 30 cups a day," says APA student Kededra Murph. Sen. Durbin bought his own cup at full price -- $1. Learn more, watch video, and view photos

Nikita Burnet, Gregory Butler, Arenique Green, Alisha Johnson, Teira Sandifer, Brittany Trotter and Latrice Tynes have already visited one of our participating partners on two separate visits to get an in-depth perspective on what its like to run and work for a small manufacturing company using top-of-the-line technology to make high precision products. Students Complete Beverage Manufacturing Program
A group of 16 APA students, along with two students from Austin
Business and Entrepreneurship, recently completed a semester-long
program to educate them about all aspects of beverage manufacturing.
Austin Polytech was well represented at the Illinois State SkillsUSA Leadership Conference held in Springfield, IL last month. The theme of this year's conference was "SkillsUSA: Champions at work, Leadership in Transition."
Nine APA students competed in a variety of contests including Prepared Speech, Customer Service, Promotional Bulletin Board, and Professional Interview. All contestants were required to submit a resume for each contest and to wear the official skills uniform: white blouses and black pants or skirts for the young ladies; white shirts, black ties and trousers for the gentlemen; and of course, the trademark red SkillsUSA blazer. Eight APA students and 5 APA and CPE staff are making progress in their fundraising efforts to go to Spain and Mondragon in October 2009. Along with learning about the Spanish language and culture in Madrid, the APA delegation will also travel to the Basque Region to visit the Mondragon Cooperative Corporation, a network of 120 businesses, many of which are manufacturing companies that are on the cutting edge of technology and the world economy.
