TERRY DADD
was named
Volunteer of the Month
for August 2012

We don't exactly remember when Terry became involved in our Center but he's been supportive in "all the right ways" from the very beginning. For nearly twenty years, Terry has been in class, in attendance on Sundays and helping out in a variety of ways. He has been a devoted Trustee for many years and is currently serving as President. He was highly visible during our time of transition--leading the Celebrations every Sunday. What hasn't Terry Dadd done for this ministry? He's done it all and continues to serve and support CSL-LA in significant ways. He's the best.
QUIZ: Terry is also known as for being someone who loves Los Angeles and visits ALL of its cultural facilities. If you think you recognize this location where the picture was taken, make sure to check with him to see if you're correct.

| OUR PURPOSE |
This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives. We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.
Our philosophy, outlook and practice is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ernest Holmes. Our basic textbook is "The Science of Mind" by Dr. Holmes.
Our founding pastor was Dr. David J. Walker. We honor his legacy by adhering to the essence of the Science of Mind teachings and by treating to know "that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same."
The purpose of life is to strike a balance between acknowledging our completeness and enjoying our creativity.
Dr. David J. Walker

What Inspires Me

I just today returned home from a trip back East. From LA to Atlanta, Atlanta to West Palm Beach, the experience in the airports was, as always, fascinating. One can clearly see how different our regional cultures are. Local populations really do seem to have their own unique flavors, perhaps most easily seen in the clothing. What a big, big, diverse country we live in.
One of the great things I've been noticing when I travel is that folks don't seem to be complaining as much as they/we used to. This is great and I'm going to claim this as a healing. I guess that it takes a little time for us all to adjust to changes, that maybe we need to blow off steam before we settle down to a new way of doing things. Who knows for sure?
But in my travels, I'm experiencing us being kinder to each other. There is so much less huffing, puffing and posturing than there has been lately. People are helping each other get their bags in (or out) of overhead compartments; no surly comments about service; no smart asides about flight attendants. We are more easily moving to help an over-burdened mother with children than ever before. Something's going on-and I like it--and it's good.
I was so inspired by this ease of grace of my Labor Day travel odyssey. Perhaps some great karmic wheel has turned and we are coming into a kinder, gentler time. Perhaps millennia of chanting by earnest Buddhist and Catholic monks and nuns is influencing the collective consciousness? Perhaps my own prayer-work is making me kinder, more generous and tolerant? Perhaps.

Pet Blessing is an important part of our life here at the Center. On the last Sunday of this month, the 30th, we will have our 3rd Annual Blessing of Our Animal Family. You are invited to bring your dog, cat, lizard, birds--those animals that live with you at home. This is no mere novelty--it's a deeply meaningful and a truly joyful day. It's also a great day to bring friends--especially children!

Spiritual Mind Treatment
I AM ETERNAL
God is the omnipresent good, omnipotent love, and omniscient
wisdom that finds Its perfect expression as the essence of My
being. Every aspect of My life reflects the glory of the One,
which created Me in Its image and likeness and called Me
GOOD.
I live My life from the premise that I AM ETERNAL. I embrace
all change as a wonderful opportunity to share more of My
God-self. From this standpoint, I allow Myself to embody a
greater concept of good. Today, I envision a future for Myself that is radiant with the Light of Spirit.
Every moment of My day fills Me with wonder and delight at
the outpouring of good through Me. Love and laughter are the
balm in every interaction, and wisdom guides My every step.
I am grateful for the knowledge that God in Me is the same today and forever. I NOW release My word to Law, rejoicing that I AM ETERNAL NOW AND ALWAYS. And So It Is.

From The Perennial Philosophy
The Tao is like a well:
used but never used up.
It is like the eternal void:
filled with infinite possibilities.
It is hidden but always present. I don't know who gave birth to it. It is older than God.
Tao te Ching Translation by Stephen Mitchell

September is Back-To-School
This is a Center that advocates for the living of life according to spiritual principle. We're here to assist you in undertaking a journey of positive change based on personal growth and spiritual understanding.
On Sundays, we celebrate the promise of living. During the week, we offer a full schedule of evening classes for those who seek to go deeper into their studies. All of these classes cover aspects of metaphysical thought-its principles and practices. Students can expect to develop greater self-awareness, an understanding of the nature of reality, realize that life has a spiritual basis, and learn techniques for inner and outer transformation.
"Class" is always an exciting opportunity for even the most advanced student to revisit what they know about spiritual principle and practices in the company of others devoted to becoming effective and gracious people.

Lessons Of Truth
TUNING INTO THE SOURCE Rev. Marian G. Moon
At some time we all require insight, guidance or direction which will cause clear movement for action. It is available at all times. Yet we may only realize its possibility in times of great need. At times like this there is a natural inclination to trust in a higher power.
Even though we believe in an infinite Source we may not know how to consciously be receptive to its wisdom.
Dr. Holmes said that to draw a definite idea, guidance or information we must be convinced that we can do it. If we accept our oneness with an infinite Source we should realize that what we require comes from that Source and it is ready to honor our need now. Tuning in is our key to receptivity.
We are reminded of this in the phrase: "Be still and know." It reminds us to stop all those noisy thoughts in order to gain clarity about ourselves. When the mind is quiet we are open to new information that is ever available to us. Our involvement with world consciousness often blocks this pure perception.
However, we only need to remind ourselves that we are one with an infinite Source that is All Knowing. It has a perfect answer for every need and willingly imparts it as we entertain its possibility. With practice we can access its wisdom and train our minds to listen to an inner voice.
It is said that consciousness is the only reality. To become conscious is to be aware, receptive and in tune with divine reality. Be consistent in knowing that you are one with an infinite Source at all times. Tune in, be receptive and let pure knowledge guide your purpose.

THE FINAL WORD
The religion of the future will be a cosmic religion. It will have to transcend a personal God and avoid dogma and theology. Encompassing both the natural and spiritual, it will have to be based on a religious sense arising from the experience of all things, natural and spiritual, considered as a meaningful unity.
Albert Einstein (14 March 1879 - 18 April 1955) was a German theoretical physicist who developed the theory of general relativity, effecting a revolution in physics. For this achievement, Einstein is often regarded as the father of modern physics. Einstein is generally considered the most influential physicist of the 20th century.
