The Book of Awakening: Having the Life You Want by Being Present to the Life You Have

A year's supply of inspiration every day and the perfect gift for yourself and your friends.
                    Oprah Winfrey

Mark Nepo, a cancer survivor, poet, and philosopher, urges readers to stay vital and in love with this life, no matter what the hardships. He issues a summons to reclaim the excite- ment of daily life, savor its beauty, and liberate the self-- one day at a time.

This collection of essays, one for every day from January 1 through December 30, offers a poet's sensibility and sensuality and gives the reader Nepo's well-harvested wisdom.   There are many inspirational daybooks out there. What sets this one apart is the mature poet's voice rising from a seasoned soul.

 OUR PURPOSE

This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives.  We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.

Our philosophy, outlook and practice is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ernest Holmes.  Our basic textbook is "The Science of Mind" by Dr. Holmes.

Our founding pastor was Dr. David J. Walker.  We honor his legacy by adhering to the essence of the Science of Mind teachings and by treating to know "that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same."

David Walker

The purpose of life is to strike a balance between acknowledging our completeness and enjoying our creativity.

What Inspires Me

John McLean pic

I have just finished watching another video on TED (www.ted.com).   It doesn't matter what the topic was--what matters is that I have yet to spend time at that website without coming away better for it.   I am constantly inspired  when I watch videos of folks sharing their ideas, their creativity, and their problem solving capacities.

After being inspired by TED presenters my mind inevitably wanders toward the fact that every day we have is a great gift.  Every day is another chance to "get it right."  Every day is an opportunity to learn something new and be astonished. Every day is an opening to new ideas and concepts that are awe-inspiring.  Every day is an invitation to also remember the Truth that is ancient and abiding.

I don't know what's on the horizon in the fields of technology and art and education and design.  What I do know is that the perennial wisdom, the Truth that we are all God-In-Expression, is also more that enough to inspire me to greater levels of compassion, acceptance, creativity, action, and self-reliance.  Today is the best time ever to make a greater demand on yourself.  Do it.  Be willing to be amazed by what you come up with. Go for it!

Reviews
Our Annual Meeting was held Sunday, March 4, 2012.  The business portion of the meeting was terrific.  We adopted a revision of our bylaws, heard reports from Terry Dadd, our Treasurer, and from John McLean on the "state of the ministry."  What we love most about this day however, is the dispensing of The Ministry Honors.  This year,
these special recognitions went to the following:

"Founders' Award"       Cooper Neal
for extraordinary long-time service

Cooper Neal with Csynthia Savage, the very
first  Founders' Award recipient

"Pace e Bene"                 Gary Bond
  for being an inspirational presence

Gary Bond
Gary's years of dedication and hard work make
him a true inspiration to us  all.

 "Light Expressing"     Edward Brown
  for walking the talk

Is there a question as to why Edward Brown
was chosen as the Light Expressing honoree?

"Making A Difference"        John C Frey
for principle-based action in the world
John has been doing exception work for the rights of "all people everywhere" both as an advocate and documentary film maker.  If you'd like to learn more about his work, go to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Carlos_Frey

Thank you for all you do for us and for the world!

Audio Worth Hearing

springsteenBruce Springsteen recently opened the South By Southwest Music Festival (SXSW)
in Austin Texas with a Keynote Address.  It's an extraordinary document on passion, music making, tenacity and joy.  All of us can learn a lot and be moved by this talk which is sure to be regarded as an historically significant presentation by a "working artist."

Spiritual Mind Treatment

I EXPERIENCE THE PRESENCE OF GOD

Edward L. Brown R.Sc.P.

God is the One Source of all Life.  It is an Intelligence that creates in Infinite ways.  I rise above the finite activities and thoughts of this day and move into the consciousness of the Infinite.  As I quiet My thoughts and  allow the Presence and Power of God to reveal Itself, I know I am guided and directed in right and perfect ways.

There is no activity more important than My alignment with Spirit.  In My commitment to increase My quiet time, I know the way is made easy.  Everything that needs to be done is done with grace and ease.  I affirm the time spent in higher consciousness flows smoothly and I benefit greatly in My spiritual awareness and oneness with the One.

I now look forward to assurance and confidence in My physical world and affairs, for I know the way is clear for experiencing God within.  I give thanks that this is so.
And So It Is.

From The Perennial Philosophy

So I say to you, ask, and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For every one who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened. Or what man of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

Sayings of Jesus from Luke 11:19

The Gospel According to Luke,  is the longest of the four canonical Gospels. This synoptic gospel is an account of the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth. It details his story from the events of his birth to his Ascension.  The author is traditionally identified as Luke the Evangelist.  The Apostle Paul referred to Luke as the beloved physician.  Certain popular stories, such as the Prodigal Son and the Good Samaritan, are found only in this gospel.  This account also has a special emphasis on prayer, the activity of the Holy Spirit, women, and joyfulness.  Luke presented Jesus as the Son of God, but turned his attention especially to the humanity of Jesus, featuring His compassion for the weak, the suffering and the outcast.

Lessons Of Truth

STRETCHING THE MIND

                                    Rev. Marian G. Moon

Can Mind be stretched?  If Mind is Infinite in Its capacity to know then it would appear that I can express Its knowingness at any time anywhere without limit.  I believe this is true.  However, Its knowingness in the individual is often blocked by the conditioned attitudes and beliefs one has about themselves and life.

If this is the case one can do some mind stretching to open themselves to the infinite potential of the One Mind.  To stretch in our thinking we must go beyond the false limitation we have and realize there is more to know, believe and experience.

Going beyond conditioned thought requires that one let go of resistance and move consciousness in a different direction.  This can be an exciting experience for the revelation of possibilities for expression.  All that is required is new thinking and creative ideas that move us into action.  Since Mind is all knowing it can express as our consciousness this moment by this process.

Life is infinite and our lives are enhanced by the process of stretching beyond finite conditioning.  There are no limits to Mind and none to Its expression in us.  All things become possible to the individual who allows Mind potential to become conscious knowing.  Today may be the day when you become open to this potential and realize nothing stands in the way of your progress and success.

THE FINAL WORD

I have seen the sun break through

           to illuminate a small field
for a while, and gone my way
and forgotten it.  But that was the pearl
of great price, the one field that had
the treasure in it.  I realize now
that I must give up all that I have
to possess it.  Life is not hurrying
on to a receding future, nor hankering after
an imagined past.  It is the turning
aside like Moses to the miracle
of the lit bush, to a brightness
that seemed as transitory as your youth
once, but is the eternity that awaits you.
