| MAKING A DIFFERENCE |
JOANNE WORLEY
was named
Volunteer of the Month
for February 2012
JoAnne Worley serves our Center in many ways. Perhaps most importantly she's a Practitioner, and as such is always in service to you, the Center, and the world. Whether it's treating on Sundays during service, in the Practitioner's Circle, or during the week for the membership, the work of a Practitioner is a commitment to service. But JoAnne is also a joyful, helpful presence in other ways. Unless she's out of town JoAnne is always at church on Sunday, always in class on Wednesday, brings treats for other classmates, and, God knows, she's the High Mistress of The Deviled Egg
(which some of us really appreciate). JoAnne has said "yes" to any request we've ever made and that's the kind of person who really helps to make a difference. Thank you, JoAnne!

FOR YOUR MIND
 Reflections on the Art of Living: A Joseph Campbell Companion is the book we are using in our Myth & Spirit class. It's an anthology of Mr. Campbell's works, offering us wisdom and insight into the "art of living." I can attest to the fact that every one of us who is reading this book is finding it an amazingly rich and rewarding experience. It's a joy to read and, whether you're in the class or not, well worth it. Enjoy!

FOOD 4 THOUGHT for OSCAR Season
Give me a couple of years, and I'll make that actress an overnight success.
Go see it and see for yourself why you shouldn't go see it.
God makes stars. I just produce them.
I don't think anyone should write their autobiography until after they're dead.
Give me a smart idiot over a stupid genius any day.
I had a monumental idea this morning, but I didn't like it.
A verbal contract isn't worth the paper it's written on.
I'll give you a definite maybe.
Include me out.

This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives. We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.

The purpose of life is to strike a balance between acknowledging our completeness and enjoying our creativity.

What Inspires Me
 I had the great privilege of attending our denomination's Annual Business Meeting in New Orleans just two week ago (February 12-17). At that meeting, the two separate organizations that teach the Science of Mind finally and formally became one organization. The move repaired a rift that happen in the mid-1950's. Why they split apart is not important--because the rift was over unimportant things. Why we came together was because of important things: representing to the world that unity matters, taking actions so we can better serve this world, taking advantage of economies of scale, but most importantly, taking an action step as a demonstration that positive, forward-looking action still can take place and that it matters.Because I was not around for either the split which occurred so long ago or the re-unification effort which began several years ago, I didn't go to the meeting with an agenda. But I did go with a preference (for unification) and I came away inspired.I saw a group that was joyful yet serious about its mission: To Awaken Humanity To Its Spiritual Magnificence. And in the fulfillment of that mission, we know that to the extent we personally awaken and inspire others to do so we will be helping to "create a world that works for all." I am inspired to challenge myself to step up and participate in the creation of this new organization and its noble work. Will you join me? All is Well, Life is Good, We are Truly Blessed ~ John |

PREVIEWS Our Annual Business Meeting will be held on Sunday March 4, 2012. At That time, there will be a greeting from our Board President Csynthia Savage and a report from Treasurer Terry Dadd. Rev. McLean will also have comments about the state of the ministry.
The "New Business" for the meeting will be the presentation of Terry Dadd and Edward Brown candidates for re-election to what will be their final 3-year terms as Trustees. In addition, there are recommended bylaw changes formally limiting length of service on the Board of Trustees as well as text revisions reflecting our parent organizations new name. If you want to read the bylaws in their entirety, the proposed new bylaws can be read on our website, www.csl-la.org under the "BYLAW CHANGES" tab in the menu bar.
It's a wonderful opportunity to gather together to hear about the business affairs of our Center. While Members must sign in for purposes of voting, all are encouraged to attend this sixty minute meeting. It's important to know the financial facts and understand more about the governance of our organization. Please plan on attending.

For the "advanced student" that wishes to read and discuss texts of significance and relevance, a small group discussion class will be held. We're calling this Post Practitioner Studies and we'll be discussing Carolyn Myss's newest work, Defying Gravity for four weeks beginning Tuesday, April 4th.

Easter is Sunday, April 8th. Everybody please make sure to wear your Easter Bonnet. We did so well last year, let's do it even better this year? |
CLASSES
SOM 204 - Spiritual Laws Saturdays @ 10:30am
This is a practical class taht empowers the student to develop positive thinking skills. The classic text provides lucid explanations of exactly how spiritual laws operate in our lives. These laws are utterly reliable, and this class shows the student how to use this knowledge to benefit every area of living. Text: Working with the Law - Raymond HolliwellRemaining classes - March 3, 10, 17,24, 31 April 7, 14
~~~~~
SOM 299 - Keys to the Kingdom: An Advance Course in Prosperity Wednesdays @ 7PM
This curriculum was created by Rev. David Owen-Ritz. In my ten years of teaching Principle, it has been more effective in advancing students to a higher level of understanding through joyful and rigorous spiritual practice (which includes a deeply rewarding experiment with tithing) than any other class. This is an advanced course in that it requires a very conscious commitment to "do the work."
The tuition is in the form of a commitment on the part of the student to tithe to the ministry for the duration of the class. A fee of $40 is also required for a student workbook and a companion set of 7 cd's to support the experience.
Spiritual Mind Treatment
I STRENGTHEN MY AWARENESS OF SPIRIT
Edward L. Brown, R.Sc.P.
God is All there is. The One Life, Presence, Power is God.
I know I am one with God and all good. The Infinite Presence
of Spirit circulates through me this very moment. God is
all I see, feel, hear, speak, and experience.
There is no hindrance in God's expression. I align myself
with the clarity of knowing the Divine. I have complete faith in this inexhaustible Source to provide whatever I need. The voice of God is my voice, always heard and spoken clearly. I strengthen my awareness of Spirit. With a receptive mind and heart, perfect clarity flows thought me in thought, word, and deed. Today I celebrate my life exactly as it is. As I become more consciously clear, I vibrate with greater clarity and strength.
I am one with Spirit as all life. I rejoice in this TRUTH. I release this treatment NOW. And so it is.
From The Perennial Philosophy
"To deliver oneself up, hand oneself over, entrust oneself completely to the silence of a wide landscape of woods and hill, or sea, or desert: to sit still while the sun comes up over the land and fills its silences with light. To pray and work in the morning and to labor in meditation in the evening when night falls upon that land and when the silence fills itself with darkness and with stars. This is a true and special vocation. There are few who are willing to belong completely to such silence, to let it soak into their bones, to breathe nothing but silence, to feed on silence, and to turn the very substance of their life into a living and vigilant silence."
Thomas Merton (January 31, 1915 - December 10, 1968) was an Anglo-American Catholic writer. A Trappist monk of the Abbey of Gethsemani, Kentucky, he was a poet, social activist and student of comparative religion.
Lessons Of Truth
CHANGING OTHER PEOPLE
Rev. Marian G. Moon
Personal relationships can be major issues when confronted by difficult people. We may want to change others but in most instances we can't. The reason is we react without realizing it is a responsive pattern within our consciousness. These indicate inner feelings and interpretation of uncon-scious states. They may have nothing to do with other's words and actions.
Raymond Charles Barker wrote: "Sometimes people take out on others the things they don't solve themselves." We are the only thinkers within ourselves and that's why trying to change them rarely works. The need is not to change others but to change our consciousness about them.
Treatment is a mental process to clear negative reactions and establish a right relationship with ourselves and the world. As spiritual beings we are potentially perfect which means everyone in our world is too. Unless we know this our impressions may reflect false attitudes that make others seem difficult to deal with. "Thou God seeth me perfect". When insight projects this consciousness we can take control of those false impressions and know the truth.
This was Jesus' method for healing. He knew himself and others as divine and capable of expressing their wholeness. As we change our perceptions we no longer are affected by others words or actions. Perfect detachment helps clear the air for right relationships to express. "We are not here to change the world but to live wisely" said Dr. Barker. "The law of mind produces what we think."
Affirm: "I am in right relationship with Infinite Mind and have the right attitude about every person." |
THE FINAL WORD
Christ behind and before me,
Christ below and above me,
Christ with me and in me,
Christ around and about me,
Christ on my right and on my left,
Christ when I lie down at night,
Christ when I rise in the morning,
Christ in the heart of every man who thinks of me,
Christ in the mouth of everyone that speaks of me,
Christ in every eye that sees me,
Christ in every ear that hears me.
Saint Patrick (Latin: Patricius) 387 - 17 March 460 was a Romano-Briton and Christian missionary, who is the most generally recognized patron saint of Ireland or the Apostle of Ireland, although Brigid of Kildare and Colmcille are also formally patron saints.
Two authentic letters from him survive, from which come the only universally accepted details of his life. When he was about 16, he was captured from Wales by Irish raiders and taken as a slave to Ireland, where he lived for six years before escaping and returning to his family. After entering the Church, he returned to Ireland as an ordained bishop in the north and west of the island, but little is known about the places where he worked. By the seventh century, he had come to be revered as the patron saint of Ireland.
