 OUR PURPOSE 

This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives.  We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.

 

Our philosophy, outlook and practice is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ernest Holmes.  Our basic textbook is "The Science of Mind" by Dr. Holmes. 

 

Our founding pastor was Dr. David J. Walker.  We honor his legacy by adhering to the essence of the Science of Mind teachings and by treating to know "that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same."

What Inspires Me

What we call "Religious Science" is not only a way of inquiry but also a practice and a way of life.  Without a commitment to growing in self-awareness as well as to treatment, mere churchgoing is like reading a cookbook but never tasting food. Religious Science, as created and advocated by Dr. Holmes, is a way of being in the world--not doctrines to memorize.  Are you challenging yourself to living in a mindful, sacred, and healing way? 

I was so moved by what I experienced at a recent Regional Practitioners' Gathering.   Over 150 ministers and practitioners from Southern California met at Westlake CSL for a day of fellowship, joyful education, and music (thank you, Bunny Hull).  Dr. Kenn Gordon, the President of ICSL shared his vision for the expansion and growth of our movement.  Dr. Edward Viljeon of Santa Rosa CSL shared some of his daily spiritual practices with us.  It inspired me.  Greatly.

 

I was uplifted as I was reminded of the great gifts that our Centers and practices offer.  Pause right this very moment and promise yourself that, no matter what the current state of your practice might look like, you'll allow yourself to be blessed by the gift you can give yourself by treating.  It's not that hard you know.  Start right now with this: "Be still, and know that I AM God."

Our first ever New Year's Eve Celebration was well attended and warmly received.  There was something about it that felt "right" and we heard lots of positive feedback.  As a matter of fact, we've already decided to do it again next year, so mark your calendars now--you have a date on December 31st!

Our first Sunday Celebration of 2012 was splendid.  ADAAWE offered the musical inspiration, and inspiring it was.  This 
citation from their website says it all "...This is Adaawe.  This is music from Africa, from America. Spirit sent.  Heart felt. This is skin on skin, wood on wood, voices on air.  The first heartbeat.  Reality.  Put your ear to Earth and listen.  This is ADAAWE."

Our Annual Business Meeting will be held on  Sunday of March 4, 2012.  At that time there will be a greeting from our Board President, Csynthia Savage and a report from Treasurer Terry Dadd. 

The Nominating Committee of the Board has asked Terry Dadd and Edward Brown to run for what will be their final 3-year term as Trustees.  In addition to that, the only other item of business will be in adopting by-laws which have been revised to reflect our new name as well as the change of name for our national organization, Centers for Spiritual Living.

It's a wonderful opportunity to gather together to hear about the business affairs of our Center.  While Members must sign in for purposes of voting, all are encouraged to attend this 60-minute meeting.  It's important to know the financial facts and understand more about the governance of our organization.  Please plan on attending.

There will be NO Sunday Celebration on March 18th because of the LA Marathon.  We will be gathering for Celebration on Saturday evening, March 17th at 5:30pm.  If you didn't experience the New Year's Eve celebration, this will be a great opportunity for you to see what it's like to gather in the early evening.  Mark your calendars now.

Spiritual Mind Treatment 

 

I AM LOVE

The Presence of God surrounds Me at all times.  I feel this connection moving through Me in My thoughts, words and actions.  Creative Intelligence works with Me, for I am always
one with the One.

I am a part of the Divine creation.  I am made in Its perfection. Whenever I feel lost or lonely, I remember to turn to the One Source of good, God.  When I do so, I remember I am a child of God, here to express peace, love, joy, and wisdom with every fiber of My being.  With energy and enthusiasm, I say yes to new adventures, following where Spirit may lead.  I let go of any fear or limitation and replace it with powerful possibilities.  I am strong, resourceful, and prosperous, and I love Myself exactly as I am.

With gratitude, I accept all the grace and richness

The practice of mindfulness unveils and reveals your essential Good Heart, because it dissolves and removes the unkindness or the harm in you. Only when you have removed the harm in yourself do you become truly useful to others. Through the practice, by slowly removing the unkindness and harm from yourself, you allow your true Good Heart, the fundamental goodness and kindness that are your real nature, to shine out and become the warm climate in which your true being flowers.

SOM 212 - Myth & Spirit                       Tues or Wed @ 7PM 

 

There are  two sections of this class running simultaneously. Please choose to attend either -

Joseph Campbell was one of the original thinkers of the 20th century. His writings cover a vast range of spirituality, culture, and human mythology. His presence, which most people only experienced through the wonderful Power of Myth video series, was transcendent. This course takes an overview of Campbell's work, helping the novice and scholar alike make sense of his or her own personal myth.

This is a practical class, which empowers the student to develop positive thinking skills. The classic text provides lucid explanations of exactly how spiritual laws operate in our lives. These laws are utterly reliable, and this class shows the student how to use this knowledge to benefit every area of living.

Lessons Of Truth    

    

HEALING POWER

There is constantly and consistently a healing power at work in the universe and in our lives whether we know it or not. It responds to us at the level of our acceptance and belief in it. It can and will heal any condition.

 

As Dr. Holmes stated "Healing is the revealing of truth to individual consciousness." Since there is no lack anywhere we need only bring this revelation to conscious awareness and know it is working at every moment through a law of our acceptance.

 

He states also that disease and problems are impersonal thought forces that find acceptance in the belief that they are real and have the power to deny our wholeness. Acceptance of false ideas can bring them into expression temporarily. Since there is no divine law to support these we are able to reverse these and bring wholeness back into expression.

 

Conditions are reversed through realization and acceptance of truth, revealing it to conscious awareness, supporting and sustaining the truth until it becomes realizations. In other words, we affirm the truth, dwell on it and make it part of our consciousness.  Any thought that denies wholeness can be reversed by conscious choice. Back of any condition is this healing power waiting for perfect expression through our consciousness. This law responds by corresponding to our beliefs with conviction.

 

Depend on this principle. It never fails. It will not fail if we support it with our consciousness. Treatments definitely set the healing power to work on our behalf. We are not responsible for its action but we are responsible for how we direct it.

 

THE FINAL WORD

Abraham Lincoln's Second Inaugural Address 1965

 

Abraham Lincoln   (February 12, 1809 - April 15, 1865) was the 16th President of the United States, serving from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. He successfully led his country through a great constitutional, military and moral crisis - the American Civil War - preserving the Union, while ending slavery, and promoting economic and financial modernization. Reared in a poor family on the western frontier, Lincoln was mostly self-educated.  He became a country lawyer, an Illinois state legislator, and a one-term member of the United States House of Representatives, but failed in two attempts at a seat in the United States Senate.
