MAKING A DIFFERENCE

JESUS ERNESTO REYES

was named

Volunteer of the Month

for October 2011.

  Chuy

We wish you all knew Ernesto as well as we do.  He's always on hand, always on top of things, always ready to be of service, always gracious and always happy.  We couldn't conduct our Sunday Celebrations with him.   He's also one of the most remarkable men we've ever met.  He's traveled a long way to get where he is today but we've never heard him express anything but gratitude for his life experience.   We are more than blessed to have Ernesto as a part of our ministry.  He he is more than the Volunteer of the Month--he's  the Voluntario del Mes!  Muchas gracias Ernesto--you make a difference!

 OUR PURPOSE

This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives.  We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.

Our philosophy, outlook and practice is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ernest Holmes.  Our basic textbook is "The Science of Mind" by Dr. Holmes.

Our founding pastor was Dr. David J. Walker.  We honor his legacy by adhering to the essence of the Science of Mind teachings and by treating to know "that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same."

David Walker

The purpose of life is to strike a balance between acknowledging our completeness and enjoying our creativity.

What Inspires Me

John McLean pic

I recently had the opportunity to speak at Christ Church Unity, the largest New Thought church in central Florida. We did three services and after each one, I met hundreds of positive, enthusiastic people. I choose to believe that experience is a hallmark of all of our Centers.

Our message, one of Truth, must lead us to practice showing up for life in positive, joy-filled ways. The teaching tells us that "Life will be to us what we are to it"-so when we choose positivity and joy, we have every reason to expect that Life will reflect those same qualities back to us. Choosing to "put on a happy face" is not about faking it, or pretending everything is OK. It's a key element of our practice. As we put a positive charge into life, we're creating a mold for life to pour positive, uplifting, enhancing experiences into.

As simple as that sounds, it is still a demanding choice and I am constantly moved and inspired when I encounter folks who are choosing, consciously choosing, to be happy and express it. What a thrill it is to walk into an environment where there are people-like you-who've decided to give up negativity and choose to see life as it really is, which is wonderful.

A few weeks ago one of our guest artists, Melissa Lewis, sang a song called "Keep On The Sunny Side." It's a terrific old-timely country song but it's message is timeless. It reminds us that the choice, to be happy or miserable, is ours to make. As we move into our season of Thanksgiving, let this be our mantra:

Keep on the sunny side, always on the sunny side

Keep on the sunny side of life.

It will help you on your way, it will lighted up your day

If you keep on the sunny side of life!

On October 2nd we had our 2nd Annual Blessing of Our Animal Companions.  It was the best--ever.  We weren't counting but we figure there were several dozen dogs and two of the most agreeable cats you've ever seen.  This year, there were also several request for healing treatment which we were honored to provide as a part of the day. We are privileged to recognize this day as it's a tribute to our own growth in our "Reverence For All Life".  I'm already looking forward to next year's celebration.

News From The Board of Trustees

Don Cunningham Smith has retired from his position on the Board of Trustees.  He has served faithfully in that capacity for 10 years and has been extraordinary in his support and steadfastness.   We take this opportunity to thank you, Don, for your years of Board service and for all the other ways you continue to serve this ministry.  Truly, you make a difference.

Per our By Laws, our Nominating Committee will be meeting to recommend a candidate to the full Board.  Upon reaching consensus, that candidate will be invited to complete Mr. Smith's term of office (March 2013).  They will then be eligible to run for re-election to the Board for an additional three-year term if that is their desire.  We'll be making an announcement about the Board's selection before the end of the year.

EVERY ACT IS AN ACT OF GRACE

James Evering, RScP.

There is One Mind, One Perfect Presence. It is all Power, All Intelligence, All Love. And that Presence imbues everything that is. That Divine Source is found in all things, all phenomena and in all of us. We share in the creativity and the magnificence of that Power. We share in the strength and goodness of the Most High and today we affirm the connection we have to the Divine.

Inside each of us is an understanding of this truth. We've all had intimations of that Divine Connection. It reverberates in us, we sense that power, that eternal force that lives within. And we now identify with that Higher Power and accept our Oneness with Spirit. We look at our lives now with an expanded consciousness in all areas.

When we do what we were meant to do, life becomes more meaningful and peaceful. We don't minimize the talents we have because they come to us easily and naturally. We now acknowledge those qualities, embrace them and celebrate them.

And we now pursue whatever work our unique talents suggest we do, assured that we will be fulfilled in every way, emotionally, creatively and financially.

As we make that connection with the One Mind, every act is an act of grace. Every word we speak is a blessing.  In this state, we are making our contribution. We are making something beautiful, we are making something that lasts. This is the truth. We are grateful for this truth.  And so it is.

From The Perennial Philosophy

The Buddha said to consider his teaching to be a raft helping you to the other shore. What you need is a raft to cross the river in order to go to the other shore. You don't need a raft to worship, to carry on your shoulders, and to make you proud that you are possessing the truth.  Thich Nhat Hanh

Classes Beginning in November

SOM 207 - Edinburgh Lectures

Wednesdays @ 7PM
November 2, 9, 16, 23, 30, December 7, 14, 2011
Tuitiion $110 for the series or $15 per evening

Based on the classic lecture series, The Edinburgh Lectures have inspired nearly every early New Thought writer.   Judge Thomas Troward delivered them in Scotland in 1908 and they have served as the touchstone for metaphysical thinking to this day.  Troward's mind is logical, brilliant, and extremely precise.  This class is excellent for the serious student of New Thought. This class is required for First Practitioner Licensing.

BALANCING CONSCIOUSNESS

Rev. Marian G. Moon

We know how important balance is when operating anything mechanical. If some part fails to function effectively it causes undue stress at some point which can lead to its breakdown. Under these conditions the machine does not operate at optimal efficiency.

If our lives are out of balance we also experience problems of ineffectiveness or inefficiency. This, at first, may be so subtle we don't notice it. Yet, unconsciously we try to compensate. But this doesn't really solve the problem.

Spirit is always unified in Its expression.   This unity maintains a balance for perfect creative expression of life at every point. As Spirit we are always a part of its unity and order.

For this unity t express in our lives, however, we must free our minds of any resistance or negativity. Since we are cause unto our expression we do this with conscious attention to our thought and clear any resistance that appears.

By organizing our thought so that it is synchronized with Spirit we can bring about this balance in our lives.   Then we function as the perfect mind of God and are attuned to our highest expression of good. By aligning our thought with divine reality we become centered and free to function creatively.

Innately we have a need to be in charge of our lives. We realize this when our thinking supports order and balance. Balance is the key to effective living. As we center our consciousness with the Mind that sustains and supports balance we can experience a greater sense of control and efficiency.

The Final Word

America The Beautiful

Katherine Lee Bates

O beautiful for spacious skies,
For amber waves of grain,
For purple mountain majesties
Above the fruited plain!

America!  America!  God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea!

O beautiful for pilgrim feet
Whose stern impassion'd stress
A thoroughfare for freedom beat
Across the wilderness.
America!  America!  God mend thine ev'ry flaw,
Confirm thy soul in self-control,
Thy liberty in law.

O beautiful for patriot dream
That sees beyond the years
Thine alabaster cities gleam
Undimmed by human tears.
America!  America!  God shed His grace on thee,
And crown thy good with brotherhood
From sea to shining sea.

This poem written by Katharine Lee Bates (1859-1929), a professor of English literature at Wellesley College, Massachusetts, after an inspiring trip to the top of Pikes Peak, Colorado in 1893. It first appeared in print in The Congregationalist, a weekly journal, on July 4, 1895.
