MAKING A DIFFERENCE

ELIZABETH DADD
was named

Volunteer of the Month

for JULY 2011.

Elizabeth Dadd

Elizabeth has been active in this ministry for as long as I can remember.  I can tell you that she has always said, "yes" when asked to serve--no matter what was involved.  (Most recently she said, "yes" to being Marsha, Marsha, Marsha in our Brady Bunch parody on Humor Sunday.)  Elizabeth has a real commitment to our Center.  She's a practitioner and co-facilitates the Women of Spirit group.  She coordinates all aspects of our work with the Downtown Women's Shelter and just last month helped to create a truly beautiful brunch honoring all our Volunteers.  Elizabeth also recently said, "yes" when the Board invited her to step into service as a Trustee.   Anything else?  Oh yes, she just spent weeks with me creating a Policy Manual to assist the Board of Trustees in taking the next step in good governance.  See what I mean?  For all the ways you serve, thank you Elizabeth.  You make a difference!

 OUR PURPOSE

This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives.  We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.

Our philosophy, outlook and practice is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ernest Holmes.  Our basic textbook is "The Science of Mind" by Dr. Holmes.

Our founding pastor was Dr. David J. Walker.  We honor his legacy by adhering to the essence of the Science of Mind teachings and by treating to know "that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same."

The purpose of life is to strike a balance between acknowledging our completeness and enjoying our creativity.    Dr. David J. Walker

What Inspires Me

John M. McLean

By the time you read this, we will have already begun our newest class at the Center based on the work of Carl G. Jung. One of Dr. Jung's discoveries was a phenomenon he named synchronicities. He defined these as experiences where things "happen" or "come together" in surprising but meaningful ways which clearly make the events more than mere coincidence.

For many weeks, as I was preparing for this class, I came across a particular quotation of Dr. Jung's but not found in any of the works I had consciously chosen to study. It reads:

Your vision will become clear only when you
look into your own heart. Who looks outside,
dreams; who looks inside, awakens.

I cam across this quote three times in six weeks.  Coincidence or synchronicity--a divine energy drawing my attention to an important Truth?

A newspaper here, a magazine there; this same quote kept popping into my line of sight. Who or What is trying to get attention by this "coincidence" and what is It trying to tell me?

The obvious answer is that for anything that might be weighing on my mind right now, the answer is not going to be found in waiting for someone else to solve a problem for me or from any advice that I think might be the tip I've been waiting for.  It seems like Mind is telling me to look within for answers that are real, practical, and applicable to the work in front of me, right now.  As I've applied this teaching, I can tell you that I've gained a measure of clarity and confidence.  I wonder if there's an issue in your life that you're not dealing with because you're "looking outside" for help or advice?

In a world where there seems to be no end of need, I also see no end to the creativity which seeks to ameliorate trying conditions.  I see so many people, younger and older, in every corner of the earth, who are looking within and awakening; grasping new ideas and seizing potentials as yet untapped.  I am inspired every day as I read about the work of good people who are bringing their best to help create a world that will be a better place for all of us to live in.   I keep finding evidence that for every need there is an answer.  But that answer can only be put to use by those daring to look within, be truly Self-reliant, and plunge forth with their visions backed by a confidence that can only come from being in tune with Source.

Never doubt that there is a vision for your life.   There is a solution to every problem and a healing to every need.  The answer is within and it is there, for each of us, if we seek it and claim it.

On The Book Table

After our fun and productive "house cleaning sale" during the month of July, the Book Table will be featuring new and familiar books.  Please get in the habit of checking to see new editions of favorite books on Religious Science, as well as new titles and noteworthy texts.  There will be fresh stock each month.

In addition to the work of Drs. Ernest Holmes and David Walker, you will find new editions of classics by Florence Scovill Shinn, Neville, Louise Hay, and Dr. Joseph Murphy, as well as the work of Anne Morrow Lindbergh, Dr. Brene Brown,  Roger Walsh, Wayne Dyer, Pema Chodron, and the remarkable Ken Wilber.

You know also, that you can now purchase your books using a Visa or Mastercard (we are not able to accept American Express however).  Continued reading in "sacred texts" is important for continued growth in consciousness.  We make these great books available to you for one reason--to assist you on your spiritual journey.

I CELEBRATE CHANGE

In this moment, I remind myself of the Truth of who and

what I am. I am God expressing in a wonderful and unique way.  I recognize God is infinite and therefore present in every area of my life.

There is nothing about me that is not God expressing; therefore, nothing about me is unworthy.  No experience in the past has anything to do with my oneness with the Infinite.  I know I have always been, and still am, blessed.  I celebrate change for the better.

Greater peace, greater joy, greater harmony, and greater opulence are unfolding in my experience in ways I never knew possible.  My experiences today are not the result of anything from the past, they are the result of a new self-definition.

I am a wonderful expression of life NOW, because I CELEBRATE CHANGE.

With deep gratitude, I release this treatment and let it be My way. It is good enough to be true, and I accept it as so.

And so it is.

From The Perennial Philosophy

Real friendship or love is not manufactured or achieved by an act of will or intention. Friendship is always an act of recognition. This metaphor of friendship can be grounded in the clay nature of the human body. When you find the person you love, an act of ancient recognition brings you together.  It is as if millions of years before the silence of nature broke, your lover's clay and your clay lay side by side. Then in the turning of the seasons, your one clay divided and separated. You began to rise as distinct clay forms, each housing a different individuality and destiny. Without even knowing it, your secret memory mourned your loss of each other. While your clay selves wandered for thousands of years through the universe, your longing for each other never faded. This metaphor helps to explain how in the moment of friendship, two souls suddenly recognize each other. It could be a meeting on the street, or at a party or a lecture, or just a simple, banal introduction, then suddenly there is the flash of recognition and the embers of friendship glow. There is an awakening between you, a sense of ancient knowing. Love opens the door of ancient recognition. You enter. You come home to each other at last. As Euripides said, "Two friends, one soul."

from Anam Cara by John O'Donahue

John O'Donohue (1 January 1956 - 4 January 2008) was an Irish poet, author, priest, and philosopher.  He was a native Irish speaker, and as an author is best known for popularizing Celtic spirituality.  He was ordained as Catholic priest in 1982.  O'Donohue's first published work, Anam Cara (1997), which means "soul friend" in Gaelic, was an international bestseller.   Just two days after his 53rd birthday and two months after the publication of his final complete work, Benedictus: A Book of Blessings, O'Donohue died suddenly while on holiday.

On-Going Classes

Jungian Spirituality - Charting Consciousness

Remaining classes:  Tuesdays, August 2 & 9th @ 7pm

Tuition: $15 per night

Carl G. Jung is one of the most influential figures of the 20th century. Anyone who is a student of psychology, spirituality or consciousness must be familiar with his work and ideas. For those of us who work in the realm of mind & spirit, it's necessary to have a mature concept of what we call consciousness. Jung gives us a workable map of the mind-- what it is and how it works. This class will introduce (very briefly) the student to Jung and his notions of consciousness in terms of the ego, persona, self, shadow, archetypes, collective unconscious, projection, and individuation. Familiarity with these ideas enrich the study of the Science of Mind immeasurably.

No text is required but books will be available for purchase on class nights for further study.

Classes Beginning in September

n pick up the brochure on Sundays or go to our  WEBSITE   select CLASSES from the menu bar on the left hand side of the page and read all our offerings.  It's going to be a fantastic year for sure.

Lessons Of Truth

Rev. Marian G. Moon

                                    SPECIALIZING THE LAW

Whenever we make a demonstration we have specialized the law.  We have brought into form or expression our desires.  The law responds to those ideas we have conviction about and makes them a part of our consciousness.  A definite belief and conviction can replace any reservation we may have had about our idea.

"The law is always responding to us," said Dr. Holmes but it does so at the level of our belief and acceptance of an idea. Even though the truth is always true in the Mind of God it doesn't become our personal reality until we accept it as true for us.

Sometimes we affirm the truth yet don't have the conviction or belief to support it.  What does manifest is what we truly believe for ourselves.  Subconsciously we may harbor doubt, fear and disbelief about a demonstration.  A firm conviction in this regard can cause the law to appear to act against us.

To specialize the law in a positive way means to bring our idea into concrete form or expression.  How can we do this? By relating our ideas with the law in a conscious way... thinking affirmatively about it until there is acceptance of it.

In treatment we remove or release any thought or belief that opposes the truth of what we desire to manifest. We treat to know that nothing in the Mind of God opposes our idea...no belief, thought or experience can deny its expression.  One treatment could do the work.  However, the final demonstration results when our conviction registers and activates the law.  Conscious purpose will specialize the law in definite ways.  We can all benefit from conscious specialization of the mental law.

The Final Word

IF I WERE

There are lots of ways to dance and

to spin, sometimes it just starts my

feet first then my entire body, I am
spinning no one can see it but it is
happening. I am so glad to be alive
and in love and loved. Even if I were
to be separated from love, even if
I were at my final breath, I am here
to take a stand, bereft of such astonish-
ments, but for them.

If I were a Sufi for sure I would be
one of the spinning kind.
