Edward Brown is the living embodiment of sunshine itself. His very presence blesses everyone. He is a founding member of this Center. He has been an usher and greeter for almost twenty years. Edward is a licensed practitioner and a member of the Board of Trustees. Even though he successfully completed ministerial studies and was, at one time, a Religious Science minister, he continues to come to class on a regular basis. Edward is totally committed to "giving of his time, talent and treasure." There is no one we've ever met that demonstrates joy and gratitude more than he does. And no one deserves to be Volunteer of the Month more than that "fiiiiine practitioner

This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives. We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.
Our philosophy, outlook and practice is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ernest Holmes. Our basic textbook is "The Science of Mind" by Dr. Holmes.
Our founding pastor was Dr. David J. Walker. We honor his legacy by adhering to the essence of the Science of Mind teachings and by treating to know "that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same."
The purpose of life is to strike a balance between acknow-ledging our completeness and enjoying our creativity.

What Inspires Me
Like children and teens around the world, we have just concluded our "school year" at CSL. What a year! In First Year we studied the first 20 chapters of Ernest Holmes' landmark text The Science of Mind. And in Second Year we studied the great work of Eric Butterworth, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Raymond Charles Barker. We concluded the season with a wonderful class-new for students here-called Keys to the Kingdom.
When I decided to pursue a life in the ministry, one of the compelling reasons was that I'd always have the chance to continue to study and teach our great New Thought philosophy. What we all learn along the way is that to be intrigued with New Thought is not enough--we must find a way to practice it in our everyday affairs. That's what the great blessing of our CSL communities offers. On-going study, coupled with putting our values in action creates the life we're seeking. It allows us a way to not only heal our lives, but also create "heaven on earth" -- right here, right now.
You are not alone in seeking a better experience of life. That betterment is what we all want. And so we come together to remind each other how fantastic we already are (how nice!) and to encourage each other along. I don't know where I'd be without the Science of Mind. But I know that where I am now is pretty fantastic. I hope you feel that way too.
A few Sundays ago I mentioned that I thought it would be a lovely idea to take the summer "off" from treating so hard for what we feel we need and rather spend time simply, but profoundly, expressing gratitude for all we have. As we dedicate ourselves to expressing gratitude, we'll create a spaciousness in our lives that will provide room enough for all we're hoping for. I'll betcha a nickle that giving "thanks" all summer long will also help create the best summer you'll ever have.

June is a busy month with plenty to celebrate. On Sunday June 12th we had a Volunteer Appreciation Brunch--honoring all those who give hands-on service to the ministry in one way or another. That's a group of about forty people. It was a lovely, lively and joyful day. For our special chefs and hostesses, Elizabeth Dadd and Debbie Joseph, "thank you" for creating a memorable event. For all who give of themselves in joyful service to the Center, "thank you" for another year's worth of care and support. We appreciate you.

The second Sunday in June also marked the first anniversay of John McLean's arrival at the Center for Spiritual Living. (A year already?) The Board was so thoughtful to remember and presented him with a cake during the Volunteer Appreciation Brunch. He also received a small bamboo plant to mark the occasion--bamboozled!

Treatment for July
GOOD IS ESTABLISHED
The all encompassing One Mind continues to express--creating, sustaining, expanding, and illuminating. It creates because it loves and wants to know more of its Infinite nature by means of my life. So I accept myself as part of the essential Unity and recognize that the power that creates is my power, too.
Refreshed and encouraged by this Truth, I direct my own attention to the Good that I can be now. Shedding all concerns, worries or fears, I stand committed to being the means by which great Good is experienced in my world. There are no impediments to the free-flowing of the One Life in, through and as me. I am receptive to and expressive of health, purpose, love, life, and plenty.
Accepting this Truth at every level of my being, my only responsibility is to stand vigil at the portal of my mind. I do not recognize anything unlike God in expression. I welcome and accept all things that are spirited, vital, and enriching. Good is established.

The Book of Psalms is a book of the Hebrew Bible and the Christian Bible. Taken together, its 150 poems "express virtually the full range of Israel's religious faith." The word psalms is derived from the Greek Ψαλμοί (Psalmoi), perhaps originally meaning "music of the lyre" or "songs sung to a harp."
Dating of individual compositions is difficult. Many appear to have been written early in the history of ancient Israel (first millennium BCE), while others may have been written after the exile to Babylon, which occurred in the sixth century BCE.
Jewish tradition posits that the Psalms are the work of David. Muslim tradition maintains that the Psalms, known as Zabur in the Quran, were revealed to David by God in the same way that the Torah was revealed to Moses and the Quran to Muhammad.

Class Beginning in July
Jungian Spirituality charting consciousness 3 Tuesdays ~ July 26, August 2 & 9th @ 7pm Carl G. Jung is one of the most influential figures of the 20th century. Anyone who is a student of psychology, spirit-uality or consciousness must be familiar with his work and ideas. For those of us who work in the realm of mind & spirit, it's necessary to have a mature concept of the what we call consciousness. Jung gives us a workable map of the mind-what it is and how it works. This class (very briefly) will introduce the student to Jung and his notions of consciousness in terms of the ego, persona, self, shadow, archetypes, collective unconscious, projection, and individuation. Familiarity with these ideas enrich the study of the Science of Mind immeasurably. Led by John McLean Tuition: $45 for the series / $15 per night No text is required but books will be available for purchase on class nights for further study. |

Lessons Of Truth
DOMINANT THINKING CONTROLS

Most of us have dominant thoughts about certain things in our lives. Many times we are unaware of how these govern our actions and responses in life. However when we are aware of these we have the opportunity to change them for better experiences.
The way people, places, and things affect us seem to be automatic response patterns. They tend to bind us to certain feelings that affect us in various ways. When we are upset or feel limited by them we have given control to a false claim. They become a part of our consciousness because we permit their repetition.
Until we recognize how they affect our freedom of expression we cannot take responsible action for change. Fortunately awareness gives us the opportunity to see from a new perspective and change our belief. As belief patterns become our dominant thinking and attitude they become a controlling force in our lives in both negative and positive ways.
We are able to change the negative pattern into positive ones by relating to the truth of our being. Our identity in God Mind never changes, but belief patterns can be changed as we gain insight into the conditions that seem to be controlling us.
Consciousness is always the key for right thinking and action. Watching your reactions to people, places and things will give definite clues to your response patterns.
Become aware. Change your dominant thought pattern and you can change your life for the better.

When in the Course of human events, it becomes necessary for one people to dissolve the political bands which have connected them with another, and to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them, a decent respect to the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness...
Drafted by Thomas Jefferson between June 11 and June 28, 1776, the Declaration of Independence is at once the nation's most cherished symbol of liberty and Jefferson's most enduring monument. Here, in exalted and unforgettable phrases, Jefferson expressed the convictions in the minds and hearts of the American people. The political philosophy of the Declaration was not new; its ideals of individual liberty had already been expressed by John Locke and the Continental philosophers. What Jefferson did was to summarize this philosophy in "self-evident truths" and set forth a list of grievances against the King in order to justify before the world the breaking of ties between the colonies and the mother country.
