I RELEASE & I LET GO
|
One way you can begin to learn "I Release" written by Ricki Byars Beckwith, is by singing along on Sundays and watching the YouTube video from the link below. These are the lyrics:
I release and I let go
I let the Spirit run my life
And my heart is open wide
Yes I'm only here for God
No more struggle,
no more strife
With my faith
I see the light
I am free in the Spirit
Yes I'm only here for God.
If you click on this link:

you'll be directed to a perform- ance of the song at the Oakland Center for Spiritual Living. Enjoy!

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY

We searched the web and looked at a thousand pictures of mothers and babies--from renaissance art onward. Of
the countless images we looked at, this is the one that touched us most profoundly and memorably.
Happy Mother's Day to all who seek to nurture life and love others unconditionally.

FOOD 4 THOUGHT
Nothing you do for children
is ever wasted. They seem
not to notice us, hovering,
averting our eyes, and they
seldom offer thanks,
but what we do for them
is never wasted.

| MAKING A DIFFERENCE |
BOB ZWOLINSKI
was named
Volunteer of the Month
for April 2011

For as long as we can remember, Bob Zwolinski has been "backstage" making sure that we have audio support and that the Sunday lessons are being recorded. Over time, things have become increasingly complex. And Bob is still providing is essential service to our ministry. This is a demanding "job" that Bob continues to do with the enthusiasm children have for Christmas morning. Bob is one of the best examples of someone who takes their work seriously, but not themselves--and his presence has been a great blessing for this ministry. Bob, you make a difference! Thank you.

| OUR PURPOSE |
This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives. We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.
Our philosophy, outlook and practice is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ernest Holmes. Our basic textbook is "The Science of Mind" by Dr. Holmes.
Our founding pastor was Dr. David J. Walker. We honor his legacy by adhering to the essence of the Science of Mind teachings and by treating to know "that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same."
The purpose of life is to
strike a balance between
acknowledging our
completeness and enjoying our creativity.
Dr. David J. Walker

What Inspires Me Perhaps you've heard me say that "what I want is for you to have what you want". Even more than that however, I want you to have the experience of being an effective and gracious person. When I use the word effective, I mean that you would be able to achieve the good you desire, that you'd know yourself well--very well, that you'd be aware of Principle and its application to life's journey, that you'd hold yourself in right relationship to all around you. When I use the word gracious, I mean that you would be strong but gentle, that you'd be easy in all the ways you give and receive, that you'd value learning, curiosity and wonder, and that you'd be respectful of all people, places and things in your world. High expectations? Yes, of course. "Ye are very god!" Have ya heard? Of course I have high expectations for myself and for you and for our community. Anything less would be settling for too little.
I am always, always, inspired and moved when I see you making the choice to be that effective and gracious person. Those of you who keep your commitments to your selfless service inspire me. I'm inspired by the those who regularly attend class, who do the homework and ask thoughtful questions. I'm inspired by the little acts of kindness that I see all around me at our Center. The growing feeling of community I experience inspires me.
What I've learned is that spiritual growth and positive change begin to happen when we keep our commitments. Every day is an opportunity to choose to be gracious and, in positive ways, experience our effectiveness. Make a choice right now to be the person you want to be, the one you can be. As you grow in spiritual strength and in self-awareness, you'll experience life unfolding with grace and ease. You will know yourself to be effective and gracious.

Something To See
We recently had the chance to see a film that lots of folks are beginning to talk about. It's called "I AM". Right now, it's only playing in Santa Monica and it may not be for long. We're tempted to say "if you liked 'What the (Bleep) Do We Know' then you'll like this, too". It speaks clearly to the values that we seek to embody when we live the Science of Mind. It's articulate, superbly crafted, and heartfelt. We don't give "shout outs," but if we did, we'd say this is a film worth watching and supporting.

Treatment for May
RIGHT HERE, RIGHT NOW
Inspired by Garnett Hundley's Vocal album by the same title
Right here right now I expectantly, joyfully stand at the threshold of what is next in my life. Embodying the idea that I am the unique expression of a Divine Power; a Divine Intelligence which I call God, I am truly ready to embrace Life as It presents Itself to me, to be expressed by me. That which has brought me to this place, this experience right here and right now, has come to pass. In its place stands a new, present, aware individual asking Life to "Bring It." I am ready and willing to experience my best and highest self. I look forward to taking responsibility for what is known and unknown. I am confident I am ready to travel the path that is spread before me. I have all that I could possibly require to navigate this new and exciting journey. I gratefully plant myself in this fertile soil knowing I have prepared it well by tilling it with knowledge and light, fertilizing it with Truth and Love. Right here and right now I grow, I expand into the Divine Purpose of my true Nature. "Bring IT!" And so it is.

From The Perennial Philosophy
Prayer is the contemplation of the facts of life from the highest point of view. It is the soliloquy of a beholding and jubilant soul. It is the spirit of God pronouncing his works good. But prayer as a means to effect a private end is meanness and theft. It supposes dualism and not unity in nature and consciousness. As soon as the man is at one with God, he will not beg. He will then see prayer in all action.
Ralph Waldo Emerson from "Self-Reliance 1841"
Ralph Waldo Emerson (May 25, 1803 - April 27, 1882) was an American lecturer, philosopher, essayist, and poet, best remembered for leading the Transcendentalist movement of the mid-19th century. He was seen as a champion of individualism and a prescient critic of the countervailing pressures of society, and he disseminated his thoughts through dozens of published essays and more than 1,500 public lectures across the United States.

Lessons of Truth
INSIGHT FROM TROWARD
Rev. Marian G. Moon
Spirit is that which gives life to something and causes it to exist. In order to understand something we must enter into the spirit of that idea. Nothing really exists for us until it becomes a part of our consciousness. Then it is reproduced in us with the same qualities of life which originally called it forth into existence
"In considering this idea and lifting our consciousness to this highest level we are able to enter into the Originating Spirit of Life Itself and reproduce it in ourselves", said Thomas Troward.
When it comes to demonstration and healing this principle applies. There always exists this perfect pattern of Life, and when our consciousness becomes attuned at its highest level we produce the experience in our expression.
Troward says that the Creative Process is purely a matter of feeling exactly what we speak in our treatments. Since the Spirit of Life is always for a fuller expression of itself it implies, as Troward suggests, happiness, harmony, order, beauty, etc., in our personal experience and that this good is always available.
Lifting consciousness is a mater of transcending old experiences and ultimately unifying with our divine nature. Troward gave a perfect treatment for this:
My mind is a center of divine operation. The Divine Operation is always for expansion and fuller expression, and this means the production of something beyond what has gone before, something entirely new, and not included in the past experience, though proceeding out of it by an orderly sequence of growth. Therefore, since the Divine cannot change its inherent nature, it must operate in the same manner with me.
Consequently, in my own special world, of which I am the center, it will move forward to produce new conditions, always in advance of any that have gone before. Contemplate and mediate on this idea and insight and revelation will help you understand the process.
Thomas Troward (1847-1916) was an English author whose works influenced the New Thought Movement and mystic Christianity. Troward was a divisional Judge in British-administered India. His avocation was the study of comparative religion. Influences on his thinking, as well as his later writing, included the teachings of Christ, Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism. After his retirement from the judiciary in 1896, Troward set out to apply logic and a judicial weighing of evidence in the study of matters of cause and effect. The philosopher William James characterized Troward's Edinburgh Lectures on Mental Science as "far and away the ablest statement of philosophy I have met, beautiful in its sustained clearness of thought and style, a really classic statement."

The Final Word - For Mother's Day
CHILD AND MOTHER
O mother-my-love, if you'll give me your hand,
And go where I ask you to wander,
I will lead you away to a beautiful land,--
The Dreamland that's waiting out yonder.
We'll walk in a sweet posie-garden out there,
Where moonlight and starlight are streaming,
And the flowers and the birds are filling the air
With the fragrance and music of dreaming.
There'll be no little tired-out boy to undress,
No questions or cares to perplex you,
There'll be no little bruises or bumps to caress,
Nor patching of stockings to vex you;
For I'll rock you away on a silver-dew stream
And sing you asleep when you're weary,
And no one shall know of our beautiful dream
But you and your own little dearie.
And when I am tired I'll nestle my head
In the bosom that's soothed me so often,
And the wide-awake stars shall sing, in my stead,
A song which our dreaming shall soften.
So, Mother-my-Love, let me take your dear hand,
And away through the starlight we'll wander,--
Away through the mist to the beautiful land,--
The Dreamland that's waiting out yonder.
