KELLY BRITT was named
Volunteer of the Month
for January 2011.
Everyone knows (and loves) Kelly Britt. She's been an integral part of this ministry from the very beginning.
Kelly was the first vocalist to sing for us on a regular basis. I have very fond memories of hearing her sing songs like "In This Very Room" when that kind of music was new for me. In addition to her two-decade long service in the music area, Kelly has always been a reliable and joyful help in the Bookstore. And she always helps with putting away the tables, books and displays on Sunday.
Kelly is someone who always says, Yes - and we honor her for it!

OUR PURPOSE

This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives. We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.
Our philosophy, outlook and practice is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ernest Holmes. Our basic textbook is "The Science of Mind" by Dr. Holmes. Our founding pastor was Dr. David J. Walker. We honor his legacy by adhering to the essence of the Science of Mind teachings and by treating to know "that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same."
The purpose of life is to strike a balance between acknowledging our completeness and enjoying our creativity.

What Inspires Me
We are a community that values life-long learning. As a center for spiritual living, we appreciate the fact that life can be lived in afar fuller way when we place things of the Spirit first. After all, the teaching is "seek first the kingdom..." The work of this "seeking" is largely a process of growth and education. If we are to continue to grow (emotionally, spiritually, etc.) we must be willing to continue to learn.
This learning comes through life-lessons and such. It also comes from active participation in educational programs. One of the things that has distinguished us from other traditional churches is that we have always had an emphasis on class instruction for adult learners. That our souls are part of the expansion of a great Mystery is a given. But people are also hungry to find out about a God and a world that makes sense to our minds. We are dedicated to advancing that inquiry. It's why we hold class twice a week, forty weeks per year. We are blessed to be part of a larger community that continually works to create curricula that are stimulating and honoring of mature learners.
What inspires me is the dedication I see in so many of you who attend classes at our Center. I see you, twice a week, as people who are earnest in your questions, fearless in your self-examination, cordial to your classmates and generous with your baked goods (we have learned that there might be "too much of a good thing"). The classroom culture that is developing in our Center at this time is thrilling to me. And the advances that are being made in the students' lives are noteworthy.
For those of you who are a part of the process--you know what I mean. If you have never participated in Science of Mind classes, you have something wonderful to look forward to.

In order to serve your spiritual needs better, we want you to know that you are free to ask any practitioner for treatment following any Sunday Celebration. It is our honor to treat with you and on that occasion, there is no cost involved. After any Celebration, get in the habit of asking for treatment if you have an urgent "prayer need." An on-going, professional, client-practitioner relationship should involve an exchange of funds for service rendered. But on Sundays, please know that we are here to treat with all who ask for treatment, and don't be shy.
The practitioners who give the pre- and in-service treatments will be especially receptive to treating on that day. Make sure you speak to them in the Lobby. We know that treatment is a meaningful and significant part of our work and we want to do what we can to make sure that you receive the good that you're entittled to. |

~~~~~~~ ANNUAL MEMBERSHIP MEETING Sunday, March 6th at 11:15am As is our Policy, we will be having our Annual Membership Meeting immediately following the Sunday Celebration on Sunday March 6th, 2011 at the Harmony Gold Theatre. At that time, there will be a greeting from our Board President, Ms. Csynthia Savage, a brief presentation from our Treasurer, Mr. Terry Dadd, and the presentation of Mss. Sherry Mandan and Elizabeth Dadd as the Board's nominations for re-election to Board service. We are following our by-laws to the "letter" with this process and feel that it is good to maintain continuity of leadership at this time. Rev. McLean will have comments to make as well--something he likes to think of as a "State of the Ministry" address. Prior to the actual meeting, Rev. McLean will be presenting "Ministry Honors" to four individuals who have had significant positive impact on our community. While this is a Membership meeting, all are welcome to join in for these presentations.

Treatment for February
I AM HAPPY AND I KNOW IT Edward Brown R.Sc.P.
Knowing that I am thankful for this Truth, I can truly say, I am happy and I know it.
I know right here and now, that God is perfect happiness. I am a creative expression of perfect happiness at the level of My being. Creative Intelligence now uses this moment to remind Me of who and what I am: I am Spirit expressing Itself in Me, as Me this very moment. As I think at the absolute level of total and perfect happiness, all My energy responds to My forward thinking. My joy expands to an all-time high, and My consciousness is in a creative mode. Nothing outside can penetrate My state of happiness. Within My spiritual space lies an unlimited supply of enthusiasm and appreciation. My present feeling is one of perfection, wholeness and delight.
I now let go of all My yesterday beliefs and move into a NOW continuum of happiness. Yes, I am happy and I know it, and this I accept without delay. I give thanks as I release My word to Law. And So It Is.

Tuition - $110 The Nature of Effective Prayer is designed to give the student a thorough understanding of the nature and practice of affirmative prayer (also known as Spiritual Mind Treatment). SOM 102 incorporates exercises that develop the student's understanding of how to pray effectively for themselves. Participants will have the opportunity to practice by writing spiritual mind treatments.

Ralph Waldo Emerson was the most quoted, most inspirational writer in America for over a hundred years. His concept of American Voice, of Self-Reliance, and of the Oversoul have influenced the New Thought movement profoundly. He is quoted by all the great metaphysical writers, and he was the first to break through traditional Christianity in such a way as to inspire multitudes to higher thought. Background information on Emerson's times and his fellow members of the Transcendentalist circle will be covered.

Lessons Of Truth
INFINITE POWER

We are told there is infinite spiritual power to do, to be, and to express who we are. This implies unlimited potential for expression and, as Dr. Holmes stated, " . . . we can use it." We can activate it in any way we choose.
For many of us this is an incredible, fantastic, imaginative idea, but without any substance to support it. It sounds good, but does it have a foundation in Truth? Where does it come from? How can we access it? These questions make us wonder if this idea is really true.
It is true. The problem with some of us is we don't know where to get this spiritual power and how to make use of it. However, if we truly consider it we should realize it is present right now, within each one of us. It is always available, and it always responds to us. How is this possible? Spiritual power works through our thoughts and the kinds of ideas we have. It resonates with and directs thought into action.
To use it wisely we only need to acknowledge it and consciously direct it toward what we want. By changing our thought we direct spiritual power in a new way. Through the Law of Mind, it must express the intention of one's thought.
This, then, is how we access this power. It allows us to use it however we choose to think. To manifest or demonstrate our good we only have to believe that this power is responding to us at the level of our thought. Changing conditions and experiencing the new is a matter of choice. Nothing in the universe ever denies our expression when we use our power intentionally for what we want.
A new consciousness is the direct result of definite use of this infinite power.

The Final Word
Until one is committed, there is hesitancy, the chance to draw back, always ineffectiveness. Concerning all acts of initiative and creation, there is one elementary truth, the ignorance of which kills countless ideas and splendid plans; that the moment one definitely commits oneself, then providence moves too. All sorts of things occur to help one that would never otherwise have occurred. A whole stream of events issues from the decision raising in one's favor all manner of unforeseen events, meetings and material assistance which no one could have dreamed would have come their way. I have learned a deep respect for one of Goethe's couplets: "Whatever you can do or dream you can, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin it now!" W.H.
