MAKING A DIFFERENCE

Don Cunningham Smith & Doug Smiley were named  "Volunteer of the Month" for October.

Don
They are both among the first on-hand on Sunday mornings and have been doing all Hospitality and Sunday Morning set up for many years now.  Doug brings fresh flowers and home-made cookies each week.  And Don is also our Greeter and a member of the Board.  They really participate.

These are truly men who know about keeping commitments and we are grateful for the many ways they help to "make a difference!"

Thank you, Don & Doug

WHAT WE BELIEVE

Declaration of Principle

We believe in God, the living Spirit Almighty -- One, Indestructible, Absolute, Self-Existent Cause.

We believe that the Kingdom of God is within and that we experience this Kingdom to the degree we become conscious of it.

We believe in the eternal Goodness, the eternal Loving Kindness, and the external Givingness of God to all.

PRACTITIONERS

Our licensed practitioners are honored to treat with you upon your request.   Please refer to our website www.lacrs.com, select the tab WHO WE ARE, and you'll find the ways to contact a practitioner for a treatment.  You can also contact a practitioner by calling the Center office and we will be happy to assist you.

 OUR PURPOSE

This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives.  We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.

Our philosophy, outlook and practice is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ernest Holmes.  Our basic textbook is "The Science of Mind" by Dr. Holmes.

Our founding pastor was Dr. David J. Walker.  We honor his legacy by adhering to the essence of the Science of Mind teachings and by treating to know "that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same."

The purpose of life is to strike a balance between acknowledging our completeness and enjoying our creativity.

What Inspires Me

John McLean pic
In our "Spiritual Economics" class that is coming to a close soon, one of our homework assignments was to begin a "gratitude log."   Most of us seem to know about these--Oprah has mentioned them regularly.  But the work consists of making a practice of writing down things that we are truly, deeply, grateful for.  You can do this once a year or once a day.  Whatever your practice is, it can be very focusing and liberating.  There is much to be grateful for.

If you haven't ever done this, why not begin now?  What is it that makes each day a gift for you?  If you will give yourself to this task you'll find it an endless but joyful one.

What I'm grateful for right now are those things and people that continue to inspire me to keep living my life in a positive and joyful manner.  I am constantly inspired by people who, no matter what, "run the race, fight and good fight and keep the faith."  Who are those folks for you?  Can you make list of them right now?  As an act of thanksgiving, could you dare to let them know how much you appreciate them?

We are deep in autumn and approaching the year-end.  It has been a year of surprise, challenge and reward for me.  I am both inspired and grateful.  As often as I say it, this Thanksgiving it will be more meaningful than ever for me to say,

All is Well, Life is Good, We are Truly Blessed!

Pet Blessing Sunday October , 2010

We should have counted but we really don't know how many members of our animal family were with us on the first Sunday in October.  Three dozen perhaps?  We remember clearly that there were dozens of dogs, three birds and two cats.  Cooper Neal's dog Ollie was the first we blessed and Carol Weiss' shepherd Daisy was the last.  It was a rich, touching and meaningful day.  Will your four-footed friend be with us next year?

New Member Sunday was October 17th and it was a wonderful day.  We welcomed into membership David Ahlander, Michael Bullock, Paul Candice, Allison Diamond, Bennie Harris, Sheila Hughes, Elaine Johnston, Christina Ringer, Robert Snively and Tricia Stubbs.  "Welcome one and welcome all!"

I AM JOY

The One Power and Presence in the Universe is God. This Power and Presence is expressed by Me now. This Power and Presence is the joy of the world, therefore It is My joy in this moment.

I celebrate all of God's creation, and as I rejoice in It's glorious beauty, It rejuvenates Me. I now realize these joyful moments exist within Me.  I share the joy I'm now celebrating by giving it to everyone I meet today. As I notice others, I share My friendship with them and watch the glow on their faces.  I am the one who is always celebrating God's joy.  I am the Joyful Presence of God.  I am the Spirit of joy within Me right here and right now

Everyone I meet benefits from the Presence of God's Joy as Me.  I am deeply grateful for the Truth I know and share about Me. In this moment, I release my words knowing it is done.   And so It is.      Rev. Edward Brown

"Writing An Ethical Will"

Creating an "ethical will" is a meaningful addition to the traditional legal wills that we're accustomed to.  An ethical will is a spiritual document designed to reflect the "voice of the heart," a love letter to your family that describes your personal values and beliefs, hopes and blessings for future generations, lessons learned, and experiences for which you're grateful.  Wendy Werris will be teaching a four-week workshop designed to help you create an ethical will by using memoir-writing techniques and ideas.  All are welcomed.

When:   4 Tuesdays beginning Nov. 16th @ 7-9pm
Tuition:  $40 / $10 per week
Where:  LACRS Center Office
What Else:   Bring a blank notebook or journal.

Lessons Of Truth

Self-Awareness and Acceptance
by Rev. Marian Moon

One of mankind's' greatest challenges is the acceptance of its own integrity.  The inability to accept this divinity results in emotional conflict, resistance in accepting the good we ought to have, and failure to live from integrity and love.

Why mankind is against itself is a mystery.  As spiritual beings we lack for nothing, which means self-esteem, integrity and love are part of our essential nature.  We have come into this experience equipped to express our wholeness on every level.

In spite of this we say "no" to life and deny its expression of individuality and integrity.  The truth of our spiritual beingness never changes.  It is always a part of us.

Accepting the reality of spiritual being should be the most important idea to govern our consciousness.  We therefore need not struggle for that which we have by virtue of being the manifestation of the One Perfect Mind.

Delusion is transcended by changing the way we see ourselves.  As awareness and acceptance are embodied, we move from bondage to freedom.  We live with self-esteem, integrity and love.  We live with perfect self-acceptance.

A Time for Remembrance

November 1st & 2nd are days which celebrate All Souls & All Saints in many of our spiritual traditions.  This is a good time to "bring back to our remembrance" those who've gone on before us.  Take this moment to remember people who have been important to you--to your growth, to your good, and to your life.  Give thanks for all they added to your experience.  Know that their essence is lovingly enfolded in Spirit and that they are, even now, expressing their immortal nobility.  We take this time to note the passing of these beloved members of our community who made their transitions this year:

Dr. David J. Walker (April),  Don James (June),  Susan Behrman (July), Vera Brown (September), and Barbara Billingsley (October).

and all manner of things shall be well"

The Final Word

i thank YOU God for most this amazing

i thank You God for most this amazing
day:for the leaping greenly spirits of trees
and a blue true dream of sky; and for everything
which is natural which is infinite which is yes

(i who have died am alive again today,
and this is the sun's birthday; this is the birth
day of life and of love and wings: and of the gay
great happening illimitably earth)

how should tasting touching hearing seeing
breathing any--lifted from the no
