| MAKING A DIFFERENCE |
RUBYE MILLS was named Volunteer of the Month for September. Mrs. Mills is someone who exemplifies all the very best of what a spiritual community stands for.
From the moment I arrived at LACRS, Rubye has been working at either the Staff Table or the Book Table. More than that, she has given us meaningful support by inviting her many friends to visit our church on Sundays. This is real service to the community. And make no mistake, that welcoming smile of hers is something that helps create a real feeling of joy and welcome.
Thank you, Rubye, for making a difference.

| WELCOME REV. FISCHER |
On Sunday, September 26th we welcomed Rev. Frank Fischer into the fold as a new "staff minister".
Rev. Fischer completed all of his ministerial studies with Dr. Walker and was "officially" licensed by the iCSL Board this year. I have know him for over twenty years myself and am honored to have his healing consciousness as a part of our work here. If you don't know him, please make sure to introduce yourself to him? You'll be glad you did. |
WHAT WE BELIEVE
|
We believe in God, the living Spirit Almighty -- One, Indestructible, Absolute, Self-Existent Cause.
We believe that the Kingdom of God is within and that we experience this Kingdom to the degree we become conscious of it.
We believe in the eternal Goodness, the eternal Loving Kindness, and the external Givingness of God to all.

OUR PURPOSE
|
This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives. We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.
Our philosophy, outlook and practice is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ernest Holmes. Our basic textbook is "The Science of Mind" by Dr. Holmes. Our founding pastor was Dr. David J. Walker. We honor his legacy by adhering to the essence of the Science of Mind teachings and by treating to know "that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same."
"The purpose of life is to strike a balance between acknowledging our completeness and enjoying our creativity."
Dr. David J. Walker |

What Inspires Me
In September I used one of our Sunday celebrations to share with you that our center will be changing our name very soon. Our parent organization changed its name two years ago. And now, we are joining the vast majority of ministries that teach the Science of Mind and calling ourselves "Centers for Spiritual Living." Our purpose will not change however--make no mistake about that.
What we all continue to learn is that we must be willing to keep up with the world around us. As ironic it may sound, "the only thing that's constant is change." There never was an era that didn't experience revolutions in thought, education, economics and the like. What's unique to our time, however, is the rate of change. It is faster than ever. Those who are willing to change are the ones who succeed. Those who dig in their heels and resist find themselves excluded from a vitality which we require for our health and prosperity.
As you know, both of the international organizations that teach the Science of Mind adopted new names several years ago in anticipation of the time when the two would become one. As of 2011 there will, for the first time since 1954, be one organization dedicated to teaching Truth, based on the work of Dr. Ernest Holmes.
What inspires me is that at a time when it seems that most of the world is, indeed, digging in its heels and violently resisting change, we are part of a movement that is gently, easily, and in an orderly fashion, embracing it. Non-resistance is a powerful tool. For those of us who attempt to practice it (in whatever areas of life that call to us) we know that we will be the ones better off for being willing participants in the flow of life.
Onward & All Good ~ Rev. John

News of Note
We Are Changing Our Name To: "Center for Spiritual Living - Los Angeles"
In addition to the information in my previous piece, please note that as graphics and other products become available to us, we'll be updating all our printed and digital materials to reflect our new name. The new name and a different color-palette will be incorporated into this newsletter, our website, our Sunday bulletins, offering envelopes, letterhead--anything that might come from us in the future will feature our new logo. All of this will be completed within the next 10 weeks.
For those of you who are interested in the overall plan, the new combined organization will be called "Centers for Spiritual Living" and the office will be based in Colorado. If you'd like to read more about the history of this great coming together, visit www.rsint.org and click on "Integration Forum" on the right hand side of the web-page.

Workshop: Writing An Ethical Will
Creating an "ethical will" is a meaningful addition to the traditional legal wills that we're accustomed to. An ethical will is a spiritual document designed to reflect the "voice of the heart," a love letter to your family that describes your personal values and beliefs, hopes and blessings for future generations, lessons learned, and experiences for which you're grateful. Wendy Werris will be teaching a four-week workshop designed to help you create an ethical will by using memoir-writing techniques and ideas. All are welcomed.
When: 4 Tuesdays beginning Nov. 16th @ 7-9pm Tuition: $40 / $10 per week Where: LACRS Center Office What Else: Bring a blank notebook or journal.

Treatment for October
MY UN-CHOSEN NATURE By Jim Evering
There is one mind, one perfect Power, Present in all things. And it is present in me, as me. If each snowflake is unique, I must represent the presence of God in my own unique way. We all share God's Intelligence and Creativity and Perfection. We are all one but at the same time we are one of a kind.
And so I treat using my uniqueness, my unchosen nature. In treating for health, I visualize my body working in perfect divine order in the most vivid, powerful and meaningful way for me. I see my health as God's health. I see it and claim it now.
I align myself with the abundance of the Universe and claim that which my unchosen nature defines as abundance--a nice house, a beautiful car, an abundance of time, good friends and good times--whatever. I decide my version of abundance and claim it now.
I open myself to perfect work. We are each born with particular interests, with distinct talents, and with a calling. And I now pursue my calling in all ways, emotionally, physically and spiritually. My work rewards me with good and brings good to all those who benefit from my endeavors.
I have right relationships with everyone. I align with my unchosen nature and attract people who respect and like me and support my goals. The more I present my authentic self to others, the more relaxed and fulfilling my relationships become.
I now celebrate my uniqueness. I accept my special place in the world and know that I make my contribution just by being who I am--a unique representation of Life Itself. And all good flows from me and to me now and always. And so it is.

Lessons Of Truth
"Making Progress"
Rev. Marian G. Moon
Any movement toward our goals lifts us to a new dimension of being. It helps us feel confident and successful. And we all like that feeling.
However, progress in any field of endeavor requires action. Our conscious action can speed up the process. WE are all making some kind of progress whether we are aware of it or not. The reason is that change is the law of life and progress means change.
Sometimes the process seems so slow we hardly notice that anything is happening. Yet at other times are aware of possibilities and changes that make things better. We are encouraged by this development.
Spiritual development and progress are speeded up when we take definite action and set goals for ourselves. Our fall classes are designed to help make this kind of progress. These will inspire and motivate you in new ways. They also help you move beyond old patterns of thinking. Consider joining a class this fall to feel the inspiration for moving toward greater happiness and success. |
