WHAT WE BELIEVE

We believe in God, the living Spirit Almighty -- One, Indestructible, Absolute, Self-Existent Cause.

We believe that the Kingdom of God is within and that we experience this Kingdom to the degree we become conscious of it.

We believe in the eternal Goodness, the eternal Loving Kindness, and the external Givingness of God to all.

PRACTITIONERS

Our licensed practitioners are honored to treat with you upon your request.   Please refer to our website www.lacrs.com, select the tab WHO WE ARE, and you'll find the ways to contact a practitioner for a treatment.  You can also contact a practitioner by calling the Center office and we will be happy to assist you.

 OUR PURPOSE

This Center exists to support all people with the transformation of their lives.  We do this by teaching Spiritual Principle and by celebrating the Promise of Living.

Our philosophy, outlook and practice is based on the pioneering work of Dr. Ernest Holmes.  Our basic textbook is "The Science of Mind" by Dr. Holmes.

Our founding pastor was Dr. David J. Walker.  We honor his legacy by adhering to the essence of the Science of Mind teachings and by treating to know "that the innermost God and the highest God are one and the same."

David Walker-2

The purpose of life is to strike a balance between acknowledging our completeness and enjoying our creativity.

What Inspires Me

David Walker-2
 If you were in attendance on Sunday, August 29th, you got to experience something special.  We decided to "push the envelope" a wee bit and we had a Sunday celebration that was "Just For Fun."  All the parts of the usual service were replaced with segments that were simply hilarious.  Many thanks to all who participated--they all went an extra mile or two.  In alphabetical order, they were:  Sherry Bezanis, Kelly Britt, Edward Brown, Terry Dadd, Jim Evering, Frank Fischer, Michele Helbock, Paul Horner, Bunny Hull, Bob Mandan, John Miranda, Cooper Neal, Ernesto Reyes, JoAnne Worley, and Bob Zwolinsky.

Today, what inspires me is the joyful willingness that they all displayed in helping to create such a grand day.  Everyone who was asked, enthusiastically said, "yes".  There wasn't the slighest hesitation from anyone--everyone said "of course!"  It is such a privilege to be part of a community that knows that joy, laughter, and fun are just as important as any of the more traditional expressions of worship or study.  We are here to demonstrate our whole selves and part of that wholeness is the ability to laugh-out-loud (even when you're in church).  I guess that's what the psalmist meant when he wrote

This is the day the Lord hath made
Let us rejoice and be glad in it!

News of Note

ICSL Ministers' Conference July 25 -31, 2010

Our national organization, the International Centers for Religious Science, held its annual ministers' conference in July.  It was a joyful, well attended, and successful conference by all accounts.  I was able to meet hundreds of fellow ministers and practitioners, attend all the presentations and participate, on the platform, in an evening "Taize" service.  It was grand.  Rev. James Mellon was co-chair of the event and Rev. Keith Cox did a special presentation about ICSL's Malawi School Project.  There was also a very special presentation, moderated by Rev. Cox, honoring our Dr. David Walker.

The next ministers' meeting (February 2011) will be the first when International Centers for Spiritual Living and the United Centers for Spiritual Living will officially become one organization, serving all of Religious Science.

The most important news for most of us is that the annual retreat will once again be held at Asilomar -July 31 - August 13, 2011. There will be two weeks of activities.  If you'd like to attend, you will pick either week.  Put this on your calendar now!  There will be plenty of information available on ICSL's website for all who want to attend.
Treatment for September

 I Live in the Oneness of Being

Today I acknowledge my Oneness with an Infinite power and presence.  Knowing that I am One with the creative force in back of all things, I relax into my creative power. In this Oneness my conscious awareness empowers me to move forward directing my creativity in calm, clear and purposeful ways.  I am One with all I seek. One with the path on which I travel, discovering good and more good, connecting soulfully with magnificent people I encounter along the way.  In this Oneness the One Divine Knower within me continuously reveals expanding patterns for growth and complete expressions of success emerge and manifest.   And so this is the life I live, a life of love, of health, happiness, and prosperity. I am inspired by knowing I am One with all those of greatness who have gone before me and all those who continue to lift me up in Truth.  So today I declare my Oneness with life and my purpose for living - to give my gifts and to fully express a whole, healthy, successful and joyful life. Now and always I live in the Oneness of Being and commit myself to consciously expressing that Oneness in all I think, say and do... everyday...all day.  For this I give thanks.  And so it is.                     Bunny Hull

Rev. McLean is especially pleased to be teaching this course as Eric Butterworth remains one of his important spiritual lights.

Lessons Of Truth

"Letting Go"
                            Rev. Marian G. Moon

Many cling to old memory and behavior patterns that interfere with their peace of mind.  If we are reluctant in letting go of past hurts, misunderstandings and painful memories we live as though these were a part of who we are.  These memories and beliefs become the barnacles that build up in the subconscious.  We may know these interfere with our happiness yet not realize we can let them go.

Unless we understand that we are greater than our experiences we assume that these are part of our make up--something we cannot change.  This belief holds us in bondage to the past.

Dr. Raymond Charles Barker wrote:  "Old hurts and old rejections arrive at the threshold of consciousness in order to get out."  It is time to release them and move on.  If we would stop reviewing and rehearsing these we could do that and experience greater freedom.  This is an opportunity to see the experience for what it is -- one that is finished and over and then be willing to let it go.

We decide to continue in the old pattern or move on.  It no longer has power over us unless we give it a place in our consciousness.

Affirm:  I choose to let go of old memory patterns and live in the "now."
New Member Sunday ~ October 17th

We will be taking in new members on the second Sunday in October.  If you are interested in becoming a new member of our Center, please make sure to complete your request at the Welcome Desk.  There will be an Orientation Class with Rev. McLean on Tuesday, October 5 @ 7pm at the Center offices.  Coming into membership is an important step for anyone who is sincere about living their life in accord with spiritual practice.  If this is the time for you, step up and be counted!
LACRS Women Of Spirit

What was formerly "The Women's Club" is now known as "Women Of Spirit." The group met on Sunday, August 15th.  By group consensus, they decided to change their name to better reflect the group's intention and activities.

They are coordinating a service opportunity at the Downtown Women's Center.  This service-op will consist of preparing dinner for approximately 90 women who are currently living on the streets of our city. Cooking will take place on Wednesday, September 8th at 6:30PM.

Please know that all congregants--men and women--are invited to participate in this joyful work, either by cooking or donating funds.  We require $200 and 8-10 cooks for each event.

September's service is already fully subscribed--thank you!  For those who signed up to cook and serve we'll see you at 6:30.  For those interested in future opportunities, be in touch with Elizabeth Dadd.

"Spiritual Jam Session"
Re-starts on September 13th

In a relaxed, supportive environment, we will get together to exchange our day-today applications of Religious Science.  Whether it's a success story, or the sharing of a current concern, it's the perfect place or get a fresh perspective.  Join us to be inspired by other members of our community or bring a friend who may be new to this science.  It's a perfect introduction to LACRS.

Our gathering takes place at the Center Offices on the 2nd Monday of each month.  See you on Monday, September 13th at 7pm.
The Final Word

My Symphony

To live content with small means;
To seek elegance rather than luxury;
Refinement rather than fashion;
To be worthy, not simply respectable;
And wealthy, not simply rich;
To study hard, think quietly,
Talk gently, act frankly;
To listen with open hearts to birds and stars,
To babes and sages;
To bear all cheerfully; do all bravely;
Await occasions, never hurry-
In a word, to let the spiritual life
Grow up through and above the common-
This is my symphony of life.

William Ellery Channing
