Welcome to our December 2009 newsletter
Blue CarHMRC New Advisory Fuel Rates

HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) has published the advisory fuel rates that apply as from 1 December.
Normally, HMRC gives a month's notice of the changes but this time, after consulting with various trade organisations, decided against issuing an advance notification.
Previously employers have had the chance to introduce the changes early; now they should apply the new rates at once.

The rates can be found at HMRC New Advisory Fuel Rates

2009 Tax Returns Reminder - Again

Tax returnYou may recall we sent the 2009 tax return checklist to you in June for return to us by 31st August 2009.

If you have not already done so, could you please return the completed checklist and drop your records into the office as soon as possible to avoid missing deadlines and incurring penalties.

VAT Rate Changes 2010 back to 17.5%

There are a number of VAT changes taking effect from 2010 which will affect all businesses and consumers.

Firstly, the standard rate of VAT is due to return to its previous level of 17.5% from 1 January 2010 instantly increasing the cost of products and services from VAT registered businesses by 2.5%.

Also, with HM Revenue & Customs growing reliance on automatic systems, VAT Returns must be submitted online for the majority of businesses from April 2010.

This is not as daunting as you may think but are you ready for this?

If you would like further advice about these or any other VAT issue, please contact us and we will be more than happy to assist. More details of these and other changes can be found here Vat increase 15% to 17.5%.

And here online VAT returns.
