 Pay Your Tax Bill by Credit Card
In these difficult times the Taxman 'kindly' accepts payment by credit card.
The catch is that fees are usually payable of 1.25% of the tax payment if made over the Internet or 0.91% if paid over the phone.
You also need to consider if your credit card company treats the payment as a cash advance in which case you could be stung for an extra 1.5% or so plus a higher interest rate than purchases on the cash payment.
As an alternative to paying by credit card you could contact HMRC's Business Support Service (Tel 0845 302 1435) and ask whether they will agree to an extended payment plan.
Our experience of this service has been very positive so far.
Our advice is:

Have a proposal of how you will clear your tax liabilities before you call.

Once you have agreed a plan then make sure you stick to it!

Compare this to the costs of using a credit card before making a final decision on how to pay. |
