Keep your mind busy
A man was walking on the beach when he came upon an old fashioned lamp. As the lamp was dusty, the man rubbed it with a cloth. Suddenly a genie appeared and said, "Master, I am your servant. What do you wish me to do?" The man was feeling hungry, so he said, "Bring me food." In a flash there appeared many delicacies laid out on a banquet table.
The man was just about to eat when the genie said, "Master! What should I do now?" The man said, "Build me a mansion on the seashore." No sooner had he spoken these words that he saw the most beautiful mansion he had ever laid eyes upon. The genie asked, "Master! Tell me what to do." The man said, "Wait! Let me take a good look at my mansion and eat some of this delicious food." The genie said, "No Master! You must keep me busy all the time; otherwise I will eat you up." When the man heard these words, he took to his heels and ran as fast as he could. He went to the outskirts of the town where a wise man lived. He quickly told the wise man about his predicament and asked for advice. The wise man whispered in the man's ears. The genie had been chasing the man all the while, and asked, "Master! Tell me what to do." The man said, "Plant a bamboo pole in the backyard of my mansion, and keep going up and down the pole until I tell you what to do." The genie said, "Yes, Master!" The man heaved a sigh of relief. Our mind is exactly like the genie. It needs something to do every moment. We must keep it occupied with useful and productive thoughts. Otherwise, it will present great perils and prove to be very dangerous. Yours, Didi Ji
