Understand true love

There once lived a young lady who was exceptionally beautiful.  During her travels she met with a prince who immediately professed his love for her and proposed marriage.  The young lady was as intelligent as she was beautiful and she understood that the prince was merely infatuated with her.  To test his love, she offered to marry him in two months.

In the two months' time, the young lady used yogic techniques to reduce her body to almost a skeleton.  When the prince came to marry her, he looked right past her.  Thinking her to be a maid he asked for the young lady.  The young lady said, "It is I."  The prince said, "Impossible!  Where is that beauty; that charm; that luster?"  The young lady said, "That was just my body; I am the same as before.  Now I am ready to marry you."  Needless to say, the prince beat a hasty retreat.

Despite using the word 'love' we remain unfamiliar with its definition.
  • True love does not diminish despite there being a reason for it.
  • True love always thinks about giving, never about receiving.
  • True love is unfamiliar with jealousy.
  • True love continues to grow deeper.
  • True love is not possessive.
  • True love expects nothing in return.
  • True love is forgiving.
  • True love is concerned only with the happiness of the beloved.

Using these characteristics of true love, measure your love for others and others' love for you.  How does it fare?  Dear readers, true love is the one we receive from God and true servants of God.

Yours,
Didi Ji
